BORYEONG, South Korea, July 20 (Yonhap) - The girls wrestling in bikinis, crumpled beer cans and a mud-splattered Miss Universe looked shocking in a country renowned for its cosmetic excesses and sharp conservative edge.
Whereas the Spanish throw tomatoes and chase bulls, Korea this week demonstrated the biggest case of mud worship outside of Israel, where the Dead Sea's fl banks are heated to soothe arthritis and psoriasis clinics ring its tranquilizing, bromide-laden waters.
As this sleepy West Coast town, some 200 kilometers south of Seoul, surrendered to "mud cage" raves, blood-red sunsets and tropical downpours, however, not everyone was convinced of the mud's cosmetic properties.

Jeon Yong-Cheol, a 43-year-old farmer from Boryeong of South Chungcheong Province, South Korea, died on 24 November 2005 from serious injuries he sustained on November 15 when he was beaten by riot police during a rally in Seoul.
Although his external wounds did not seem serious and he left the rally with other protesters without obtaining any medical assistance, on his way home he was overheard speaking to two witnesses, saying that his head was very painful after being hit by a police shield.
On November 17, Mr Jeon collapsed in front of his house and was taken to the Boryeong Asan hospital as he was unable to control his body movements.
