An official at Boryspil Airport's consular section on August 7 confirmed that for the last three weeks some 20 Americans arriving at the airport were not permitted to purchase visas and were sent back to the Western European cities where their flights originated.
Boryspil airport began turning away passengers in July, at which time Austrian Airlines issued an advisory to all countries where it flies that passengers bound for Ukraine should purchase visas beforehand.
An official in the consular section of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs admitted the directive had not been strictly enforced at the time but that "gradually, it was put into practice." The fact that many Americans travel to Ukraine in the summer months is a "coincidence," the official added.

Along with the land plots, the company AroSvit got the Boryspil Airport's other property, which was sold to the aerial carrier at deliberately understated costs and without adjusting these matters with the State Property Fund.
The Boryspil Airport is Ukraine's largest international airport and hub, which accepts regular flights by 38 foreign and 32 Ukrainian aerial carriers and handles about 10,000 passengers a day (up to 15,000 passengers in summer).

The corresponding agreement was reached during a working meeting of representatives of the Japanese financial institution and the senior management of Boryspil held at the JBIC headquarters on April 7.
The project envisages the construction of a new terminal with a passenger capacity of nearly 1,000 per hour, a 3-5 storey parking lot and repaving of the tarmac and roads connecting the runway with the terminals.

 Boryspil Airport is being tidied up
The Japanese government resolved that JPIC give Ukraine a loan for 19.092 billion yen (about $172 million) to revamp Boryspil Airport to build a new terminal to increase the passenger capacity.
It is a 30-year-term loan with a 10 year grace period at 1.5% annual interest rate.
If this project is effectively implemented, the Japanese government will issue further loans to help Ukraine finance several other projects, particularly construction of a bridge spanning the Buh River in Mykolayiv, cleansing the polluted waters in Kryvy Rih (Dnipropetrovsk oblast), and building power plants in Cherkasy and Dnipropetrovsk.

AeroSvit made the announcement after a meeting with Economy Minister Arseniy Yatseniuk and Boryspil authorities, suggesting that the trilateral talks had failed.
