  Brazos River - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Its main tributaries are the Clear Fork of the Brazos, which passes by Abilene and joins the main river near Graham; Bosque River; Little River; Yegua Creek; and Navasota River.
While the river was important for navigation before the American Civil War, it is primarily important today as a source of water for power and irrigation.
The water is administered by the Brazos River Authority.

The North Bosque River, the longest branch of the river, rises in north central Erath County and cuts through Hamilton County into Bosque County, where it is joined by the East Bosque River, which rises in Erath County.
From their confluence the North Bosque continues into central McLennan County, where it is joined by the South and Middle Bosque rivers as it flows into Lake Waco.
The upper branches, in Erath, Hamilton, and Bosque counties, are relatively narrow, free-flowing, and scenic, with clear water and heavily vegetated banks.

The North Bosque is a small, 100-mile-long seasonal river that flows from north of Stephenville south to Lake Waco, the sole source of drinking water for about 150,000 people.

In February 2001, the TNRCC placed the North Bosque under TMDL (total maximum daily load) restrictions for soluble reactive phosphorus with the objective of reducing the volume of phosphorus going into the river by 50 percent and thus controlling the growth of excess algae.

Water quality problems persist in the Bosque and Leon River Watersheds, and dairy industry operations are the apparent sources of those problems, according to a report released today by the Sierra Club’s Texas Water Sentinels Project.

Moreover, the continued approval of new and expanded CAFO operations in these watersheds poses the threat of further degradation of water quality in the Bosque and Leon River watersheds and in Lake Waco and Lake Belton, says the Sierra Club.

 KWTX | Edwards To Announce Plan For Bosque River Cleanup
Chet Edwards, D-Waco, is scheduled to announce a $5 million plan Friday to clean up the North Bosque River.
The funding was authorized Wednesday by the U.S. House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee under the Water Resources Development Act, Edwards’ office said.
"This authorization will clear the way for a wide range of clean-up efforts in the Bosque Watershed, and that means reducing pollution in Lake Waco," Edwards said.
