Bossier City is the location of Barksdale Air Force Base, home of the 2nd Bomb Wing, 8th Air Force, and 917th Wing.

On Tuesday, October 7, 2003 the Bossier City Fire Department paid tribute to its two firefighters who died in the line of duty with a memorial ceremony at the Liberty Garden on the grounds of the Municipal Complex.
On September 25, 2002, the Bossier City Fire Department responded to a call that a man was stranded in a motorized lift basket at the city water tower on Airline Drive.
Four Bossier City firefighters certified in high angle rescue went to the top of the water tower and one of them, firefighter Dwayne Elliot, repelled down to the man, rigged him up in a harness and brought him down.
