City Hall is a 9-level, horizontally-oriented brutalist building located at the heart of IM Pei’s brick-paved Government Center plaza in downtown Boston, Massachusetts.
The adjoining 8-acre City Hall Plaza is often used for parades and rallies; most memorably, the region's championship sports teams, the New England Patriots and the Boston Red Sox, have been feted in front of City Hall.

I've read quite a bit about have the urban renewal of the west end 'saved' Boston but unfortunatly it happened at a time when modern architecture was (I think) at it's worst.
The City government was so enamored of the new one that they almost tore down the old (which dates from the 1860s).
