BRA seeks to block mosque questions - The Boston Globe
The Boston Redevelopment Authority went to court yesterday to prevent four of its key officials from having to answer questions under oath about a deal in which a city-owned parcel of land was transferred to an Islamic group for construction of a mosque.
BRA attorneys said the David Project has not agreed to pay for searching for the requested documents, including e-mails, and for copying those documents, a cost that could range from about $50,000 to $85,000.
Lewis said the BRA has thousands of documents stored "willy-nilly" in boxes that are not labeled, a storage method he said was intended to keep the documents from being easily accessible and to increase the costs of access.

  SAND News!
The Boston Redevelopment Authority has quietly reduced its housing projections for Fort Point, from a stated goal of 2500 units (all BRA plans from 2001-2005) to a newly stated goal of 2000-2300 units (inserted into the newly published 100 Acre Plan Final Draft).
As envisioned by Cooper, Robertson and Partners — the planning team hired by the BRA to develop the Seaport Public Realm Plan, with conclusions supported by the Boston Society of Architects, thousands of housing units would be of vital importance for the South Boston Waterfront to develop as an urban neighborhood.
In 1998, the Boston Society of Architects called for the “threshold residential development that generates critical mass of residents (minimum of 10-15, 000 residents, 6000 dwelling units...mix of housing types and range of affordability spread through the District).” The BSA estimate was cited in comments from SAND to the BRA in January 2000.

ESRI News - Summer 2001 ArcNews -- The Boston Redevelopment Authority Streamlines Mapping Distribution
Boston, Massachusetts, is one of the United States' oldest and largest cities.
Officials at BRA understood that providing dynamic online access to maps over the Internet could address both of these issues by helping clients inside and outside of City government to get the up-to-date maps they needed from their desktops and avoid frequent trips to city hall.
BRA plans on expanding its use of MapCiti by supporting the public information needs of other City departments, such as community development, public safety, and parks and recreation, through GIS service.

The scandal at the Boston Redevelopment Authority reveals the bankruptcy of Mayor Menino's housing and development policies.
The decline and pending (at press time) fall of Boston Redevelopment Authority director Tom O'Brien -- obviously necessary, given the BRA's and City Hall's deplorable insensitivity to the affordable-housing crisis -- obscures a far larger problem: the utter bankruptcy of Mayor Tom Menino's housing and development policies.
Yet even as the BRA scandal fades, working-class and middle-class families continue to flee a city they no longer have the means to live in.

The Boston Redevelopment Authority (BRA) insists that waterfront development requires enough housing to create a residential community, and that new units will help lower soaring South Boston rents -- yet Southie is wary of gentrification and the outsiders it brings.
Thus, when Mayor Tom Menino and BRA director Tom O'Brien were in a bitter standoff with Kelly over the number of new housing units to be built in South Boston, the hand of Moakley quickly settled the crucial issue.
But given how many of Boston's biggest projects -- from waterfront development to a new convention center to the proposed Logan runway -- do affect the strong-willed folk of South Boston, that seemingly conciliatory statement might be little more than Moakley's way of saying he's not done yet.
