New South Wales is bounded by the Pacific Ocean on the E., by Queensland on the N., by South Australia on the W. and by Victoria on the S. It lies between 28 and 38 S. lat., and 141 and 154 E. long.
South of Sydney the rivers are of less importance; the principal is the Shoalhaven, 260 m.
In the extreme south-east of New South Wales, at the head of the Genoa river, are sandstones with Archaeopleris howilti, which are an extension of the Lower Devonian beds of Victoria; while farther to the east, at Eden and Twofold Bay, are Upper Devonian sandstones.

Botany Bay, pictured in the image above, earned its name from the diverse collection of new and unfamiliar botanical specimens described and collected by the expedition’s botanist, Sir Joseph Banks.
Cook suggested Botany Bay as a possible future colony site, but the settlers arriving with the First Fleet in January of 1788 found the cove to the north more suitable.
Two major Sydney landmarks are on or next to the bay: Port Botany, a major terminal for container ships (located at about 3 o’clock), and Kingsford-Smith Airport, Sydney’s international airport (located at about 12 o’clock).

They were neighbours with the Kuring-gai and Darkinung peoples to the south, the Worimi people to the north, and the Wonnarua people to the west (on the middle reaches of the Hunter River).
The boundaries for the Darkinung appear to have stretched from Wilberforce and Wiseman's Ferry on the Hawkesbury River to Jerry's Plains and Singleton on the Hunter.
They had close trade and ceremonial links with their neighbours the Darkinung, to the south, as well as close contact with the Wiradjuri to the west of the mountains.

Western South Pacific: Temperate and subtropical southern Australia, from off New South Wales, Victoria, Tasmania, South and Western Australia (west coast), with questionable records from southern Queensland and the tropical north coast of Western Australia; also New Zealand (a single record, possibly as a straggler or waif from Australia).
Some may range as far south as Tasmania from the Sydney area in New South Wales in the annual migration cycle.
Males are adolescent between 50 and 80 cm, mature between 70 and 80 cm, and reach at least 105 cm; females are adolescent between 65 and about 84 cm, mature between 80 and 95 cm, and reach at least 123 cm; adult females average about 25 cm longer than adult males.

It has not been reported from Port Jackson and Botany Bay, New South Wales, where it was once common, since the 1880’s and is now uncommon anywhere along the central and northern coast of New South Wales.
Furthermore, the practice of "spiking" incidentally caught stingrays (using a metal bar or stick with a sharpened point attached to pierce the animal’s chondrocranium and remove it from nets, sorting trays, etc.) continues in many commercial fishing situations and may be a potentially significant source of mortality.
No information is available on the species’ current status in New Guinean waters, although it that locality it is likely to face pressure from subsistence fishing activities and the effects of pollution from mining and other land-based activities.
