Botany Bay is a bay in Sydney, New South Wales, Australia, a few kilometres south of the central business district.
The SS Botany Bay was the name of a fictional sleeper ship seen in the Star Trek episode "Space Seed." This ship was referenced, though unseen, in the film Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan when Pavel Chekov found a fragment of it and famously read "Botany Bay...oh, no!"

Botany Bay National Park is located on the eastern end of the Kurnell Peninsula and covers an area of 324 hectares.
The Park is managed by NSW National Parks and Wildlife Service and provides protection to a rich diversity of environments and ecosystems including cliffs and rock platforms, dunes, freshwater streams and swamps, and wet forest which all support a range of fauna species, many of them endangered.

The inlets of Botany Bay and Port Hacking reflect altered conditions during the glacial period, when rivers cut valleys to a lower sea level, and subsequent sea level rise drowned the excavated lowlands.

The New South Wales Parks and Wildlife Service says a record number of whales have been spotted this year off Cape Solander in the Botany Bay National Park.
Christine Hopkins, the Botany Bay Area Manager says about 1000 whales have passed the cape to migrate north this winter, the highest number since the service began counting whales in the area eight years ago.
Ms Hopkins says the increasing numbers passing Cape Solander could mean the mammals are recovering since the abolition of whaling.

Twenty three humpbacks were sighted off Cape Solander, Botany Bay this morning until 12.30pm.
A pod of whales swam inside the bay for a couple of hours at around 7:00am this morning and than continued their journey north.

 Air rescue gets new lease for life
We support the excise of land from the Botany Bay National Park as a long-term base for the southern regional lifesaver rescue helicopter.
I do not oppose the bill, but I wonder whether an attempt was made to determine whether part of the land leased by the New South Wales Golf Club, which is adjacent to the proposed helicopter site, could have been used to avoid using any land at all in the national park.
Perhaps the land leased by the golf club is limited and if a small section were taken the number of holes required to make a golf course viable would have been affected.
