Loaches Online - Dwarf Loach / Chained Loach (Botia sidthimunki)
The Botia Sidthimunki is almost extinct in it's native habitat of Thailand due to over fishing and water pollution.
Juveniles of the Botia Sidthimunki carry a chain pattern, which also gives them the name of "Chained Loach." Although this is a better name than the first mentioned, these fish don't carry the chain pattern throughout their whole life.
The Botia Sidthimunki develops the chain pattern at the size of 1.25 in, while the Botia Nigrolienata develops the chain pattern at the size of 1.75 inches.

Botia striata is a small and peaceful loach, that is very effective against most snails.
Botia morleti (syn B horae), the Skunk-botia is also good at snailcontrol; this one however, has been known to get aggressive sometimes, and if you have a 'bad' one, it's able to kill co-inhabitants.
The bigger longsnouted Botia's, like Botia hymenophysa (Tigerloach) should be avoided: the Tiger is as good as its' namesake, and pound for pound one of the nastiest fish in Asia.
