  CVCO - Overbooked: A Resource for Readers
As most planners have learned (some too late, to their dismay and that of convention-goers) the real secret of a good Bouchercon (as of any such gathering) is that it be held at a hotel with a large lobby, one with a lot of conversation groups and preferably a bar.
He was engaged as after-dinner entertainment for the Bouchercon banquet on Minneapolis, and although most of his tricks, singularly unspectacular to start with, fizzled, he performed the amazing feat of making just about every guest at the well-attended banquet disappear.
With Bouchercon coming up, this is a good chance to do publicly what we do privately every working day: thank the people who have made it possible for St. Martin's to be so widely known and praised as the publisher of mysteries.

 Anthony Award Nominees
Bouchercon was named for the late Anthony Boucher in honor of his contributions to the field of mystery and detective fiction for his crime fiction and his reviews in the New York Times Book Review.
All members of Bouchercon 2001 that were registered as of April 1, 2001 were given the opportunity to make nominations for the Anthony Awards.
Bouchercon 2001 will be held November 1 to November 4, 2001 in Crystal City, Virginia.

There was a panel at Bouchercon on the book and afterwards Dennis lined up nine of the authors and had a signing fest.
The Bouchercon committee kept changing the time and place of the Meet the Brits event, but we finally found it in the Hospitality Suite, although it was later reconvened in one of the Ballrooms, where the authors were supposed to be introduced, but never were.
He went into a bar at Bouchercon a couple of years ago and a man at the other end of the bar yelled, "You!!" and pointed to Bill.

The general opinion around Bouchercon 34 was that the Riviera Hotel's definition of a non-smoking room was one that wasn't currently on fire.
Bouchercon affords us an opportunity to break out of that isolation and share our experiences, frustrations and joys with the other lunatics who've made writing their lives if not always their livelihoods.

This trip to Bouchercon, an event named after the late crime writer and New York Times critic Anthony Boucher, was Burke's first.
Bouchercon, which also had such luminaries in attendance as Ruth Rendell, Michael Connelly, Walter Mosley, Ian Rankin and Harlan Coben, was an eye-opening experience for him.

This is because throughout Bouchercon I felt like the steel ball in a pinball machine, as I bounced from people to people, talking, listening and drinking beer and coffee, surrounded by the sound of the metallic cogs of slot machines and keno callers.
The Bouchercon Bar closed around midnight, so the ones with stamina re-grouped at The Splash Bar, down in the bowels of the casino, where our voices competed against the bangs and whizzes of the fruit machines.
The problem I guess with Bouchercon is that there are so many interesting panels, of which many clash that you miss a great number of them.

Bouchercon is combined from the words "Boucher" and "convention." The annual feat is in honor of Anthony Boucher who died in 1968.
The first formalized Bouchercon was held in 1970 in Santa Monica, California.

Mary Reagan has set up a group on Flickr where anyone who sets their pictures with the tag "Bouchercon" (or something similar) can have them hosted, as long as they join up as a member.
Granted, there probably won't be nearly as many photos as there were from this convention, but one can certainly try...

Changes shall be presented in writing to the membership through the Bouchercon updates prior to the Bouchercon business meeting including printing the existing by-laws and standing rules.
In the last update mailing to the membership prior to Bouchercon, the nominees shall be presented to the membership.
Within ninety days of the end of each Bouchercon, the Conference Committee Chair must pass on the membership list from the previous Bouchercon to the Chair of the Standing Committee and the next three Bouchercon Conference Committee Chairs.

Bouchercon.  We readers mingled with the friendly Saint Vincent de Paul conventioneers, who always traveled in couples, as well as with richly robed fl men and, for the most part, their more sedately dressed wives, who seemed to have a religious agenda for their coming together.
Once again, book lovers from around the world have gathered to “talk books’ meet new people, see old friends, and discover new authors and new books.  The hours flew by, and it was over all too soon.  Another year come and gone, and we all feel richer for it.

The highlight was in the handing over of those cheques last November, it made all the hard work worth it.
