Since January 1, 1979 the municipality consists of the villages Bovenkarspel (population as of 2003: 10,618), Grootebroek (8,166) and Lutjebroek (2,383).
Stede Broec is located in the region West-Friesland consisting of all the land surrounded by the West-Friese Omringdijk, a dike which then protected the land against the dangers of the tides of the Zuider Zee.
In March, 1999 an outbreak of Legionnaires' disease occurred during a flower exhibition in Bovenkarspel.

The name Stede Broec comes from Stede (meaning 'cities') and Broec (meaning 'swamp'), for most of the villages are built on poldered ground, a fairly common thing in the Netherlands.

The name Stede Broec was used in 1979 when the villages of Bovenkarspel and Grotebroek were put together and were formed to one village.
The one were I work is in Enkhuizen and another is in Bovenkarspel, further more he has three shops in Almere, one in Hoofddorp, two in Lelystad and two in Emmeloord.
Hoofddorp is a town, near schiphol airport and Bovenkarspel is part of the municipal of Stede Broec and that is part of the municipal were I live.
