Bovidae - Cattle, antelopes, and goats
The Bovidae are the most diverse group of living ungulates with 143 Recent species (over 55% of modern ungulates).
The family Bovidae began its evolution in Africa around 19 million years ago, and rapidly diversified, with 78 genera known from the Miocene (compared to 50 today).
Kingdon (1997) suggests that a continental divide between Africa and Eurasia may be responsible for the early divergence of the Boodontia (Eurasian in origin) and the Aegodontia (which continued evolving in Africa).

Breeds of Cattle at CATTLE TODAY
Domesticated cattle are in the family Bovidae which includes ruminates with paired, hollow, unbranched horns that do not shed and an even number of toes.
Most of the new breeds originating in the United States were developed in the Southern states where the standard breeds lacked resistance to heat and insects and did not thrive on the native grasses.
Other Bovidae that are so closely related to true cattle that they can interbreed include the bison, buffalo, and yak.

MOLECULAR PHYLOGENY   (Site not responding. Last check: )
Six families are traditionally recognized within the suborder–Ruminantia: Antilocapridae (pronghorns), Bovidae (cattle, sheep, and antelopes), Cervidae (deer), Giraffidae (giraffes and okapis), Moschidae (musk deer), and Tragulidae (chevrotains).
Within the pecorans, Antilocapridae and Giraffidae emerge first, and the families Bovidae, Moschidae, and Cervidae are allied, with the unexpected placement of Moschus close to bovids rather than to cervids.

The Animals of the Family Bovidae and Their Products Importation Prohibition Regulations (see footnote 1) are repealed.
It should be noted that there is a list of animals and animal products which are exempted from this prohibition regulation only because they are regulated by other means such as the requirement for an import permit or a certification or because they are considered a low risk.
Not enacting the amendment to the importation prohibition regulations is unacceptable as the current regulations will expire on June 1 and importation restrictions are necessary to maintain protection against the importation of animals, and animal by-products constituting a high risk for carrying BSE.

 Bovine Evolution and Bat Evolution
The sequence data suggest that the initial diversification of the Bovidae took place in Eurasia and that lineages such as the Cephalophinae and other enigmatic taxa (impala, suni, and klipspringer) most likely originated, more or less contemporaneously, in Africa.
"Evolution within the family Bovidae (cow, sheep, and antelope) is characterized by global immigrations, adaptive radiations, and mass extinctions which, in concert, gave rise to the 49 extant genera and more than 140 species known today.
The majority of these species are endemic to the African continent, and the complex evolution of the group was molded by a wide variety of mechanisms and natural events, including temperature adaptation, feeding ecology, vegetation physiognomy, rifting, and climatic fluctuations (Kingdon 1989).
