Fly Fish Alberta ~ Bow River Alberta Fly Fishing ~ Fly Fish Alberta   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-10-14)
The Bow River has a city and an international community full of adoring fans and intimate friends who have tales and stories of days spent adrift with fish emptying their reels, screaming away from its pursuer.
There is no other river quite like the Bow: one would be hard pressed to think of anywhere else in the world that you can enjoy a gourmet meal in one of Calgary's many fine restaurants and within an hour be catching some of the finest and wildest trout available anywhere.
Successful Bow River fly fishermen aren't closed~minded to new tricks or new methods; adaptability and willingness to change will see dramatically different results: when the fish are rising it is dry flies; when they aren't it's time to chose from an accepted set of nymphs or streamers chosen by guides from their years of experience.

Bow Back Rivers - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Bow Back Rivers are part of the River Lee in London and form a complex system of waterways.
Bow Creek, and the connecting waterways, Prescott Channel, Channelsea River, Abbey Creek, Three Mills River, City Mill River and Waterworks River are all tidal but St. Thomas Creek and the Old River Lee are not (being maintained at the same level as the Limehouse Cut).
Also in the area and crossing the Back Rivers by a series of bridges is the Northern Outfall Sewer.

Bow I hunted with before Lisa drew the drawing on back of bow.
Jay’s medicine bow design, according to Al, was “typical of many bows built by the old Cherokees, who said this design produced the fastest bow.” Jay felt the shape of his bow was a gift from the ancient Cherokees, through Al Herrin.

While it may be the high-profile latecomers — the brown and rainbow trout — that attract sport fishers to the Bow, experienced anglers know that plucky mountain whitefish, the river's long-time residents, can also bend a rod and fight a line.
Unlike the trout, which are an introduced species, mountain whitefish are native to the Bow, and are the most abundant sport fish in the river.

Bow Locks have been rebuilt, and a retaining wall built along the adjacent spit of land in order to keep the tide out of this section, which is therefore no longer semi-tidal.

A canal and river licence enables a vessel to be used on any BW waterway, whereas a river-only 'pleasure boat certificate' is valid only on specified river waterways, and costs 60% of the cost of a full 'licence'.
A common criticism of the BW river permit scheme is that although the pleasure boat certificate is valid on all BW river waterways, it is often impractical to cruise on more than one of them owing to their unconnected geographical locations.
This river is accessible from seaward via Bristol Docks and is the closest BW river to the river Severn.
