Bowmore (Scottish Gaelic: Bogh Mòr) is a small town on the shores of Loch Indaal, on the Scottish island of Islay.
Bowmore is home to the the Ileach newspaper (commonly known as the 2 minute silence as this is roughly the time it takes to cover the news at best, unless it involves bicycles as one of the writers seems to have a passion for them).
Bowmore football field is homeland to the entire population of the island's 40-something thousand geese (and rising) yet according to the amount of "droppings" left, we reckon the number is nearer 400,000 as the footballers have to wear wellies instead of football boots in order to counter act these over protected vermin's "droppings".

Bowmore is the oldest destillery on the island and is additionally a destilly that both tries to please the tourist and the connaisseur.
The 12 year old is one of the most peaty ones in the Bowmore collection, although it not as dominating as the case is with the southern Islay distilleries.
All in all somewhat surprising for a Bowmore whisky.

Bowmore is a dynamic distillery and the guides must be physically well trained to keep their rhythm during a whole day (the tour is performed in less than 45 min).
Bowmore distillery is more like a show room than a working distillery and I would not mind spending more time with the tours at Bowmore in the different sections to fully appreciate the beauty of the distillery.

Bowmore is operated by Morrison Bowmore (who operate Auchentoshan and Glen Garioch), and owned by Suntory of Japan.
As Bowmore ages the rough edges are worn away and an almost soft (though thick and syrupy), elixir emerges.
Similar to the Bowmore Claret the nose and palate are definitely Bowmore, medicinal, phenolic, smoky, salty and peaty, but softened to an extent by the port finishing.

Although heavily peated by most standards, Bowmore is lighter than the big peaty malts on the south coast of Islay, and is a little fresher with leafy notes and ozone character imparted by the westerly winds.
