Bowness is a community district in west Calgary.
The neighbourhood is bordered by the Bow River on the north and Stoney Trail on the west.
The park sits between the Bow River and a lagoon, and is popular for picnics, summer sports, ice skating in the winter, and boating.

Alberta had 108,000 acres Red Fife wheat and within six years this would rise to 1,640,000 acres of wheat.
Bowness, Alberta was created this year by John Hextall who wanted to create a bedroom community to Calgary.

This park was owned by The City of Calgary and operated by its Street Railway Department, making it a trolley park, that is, one used to promote trolley business during off-peak times.
This unit had come from Winnipeg Beach Park and would stay at Bowness until 1969.
Today, Bowness is run mostly as a nature park by Calgary's Parks and Recreation Department.

It was the entrepreneurial, visionary, John Hextall's subdivision plans, registered in 1911, which became the framework for the village and town.
Bowness Park and the street car are also closely associated with his legacy.
In early 1964 they sold their property and moved to 5831 Bow Crescent where they lived until 1969 when they built a home at their son's farm near Strathmore.

Course records fell Sunday evening in both Men's and Women's categories at the first race of the 2006 Tour de Bowness, a 1.2 Kilometre Hill Climb at Canada Olympic Park in Calgary.
The entirely uphill race featured a three-up start format, and coursed up the steep, switch-backed grades of the service road at Canada Olympic Park.
