		Suitable for either the casual Misfits fan or the die-hard Danzig fanatic, the Samhain box set is an indispensable compendium of Samhain recordings.

		Although Samhain was basically a solo vehicle for Danzig (he was the group's singer and songwriter, and also played an assortment of instruments on subsequent recordings -- guitar, bass, piano, drums, etc.), he was joined by a variety of musicians during their existence.
		The new lineup was supposed to issue a recording in 1988 (under the title of Samhain Grim), but the recording was ultimately shelved, as Danzig opted to change the name of the band to Danzig (Samhain Grim was eventually released two years later, retitled Final Descent).
		Samhain collected all four of their releases as well as a live disc that combined tracks from a 1985 show in New York City and a 1986 show in Chicago.

		Of course, the purpose of the box set, and the Ken Burns documentary, is to show the genre's evolution.
		This set includes each of the comedy albums he released on Warner Bros. Records, from 1968's "Richard Pryor" to the renowned 1982 disc, "Richard Pryor Live On The Sunset Strip." It also includes a handful of odds and ends that have never been released.

		Unfortunately, all told, it's just a little of not much and can easily be skipped over by those who don't have to have every Samhain CD in their collection.
		Be warned, however; like the Ramones, Samhain manage to put ten songs on a CD with a running time of only 29 minutes.

		Not only does the set include Samhain's four recordings on four separate discs--"Initium," "Unholy Passion" (which has, incidentally, been out-of-print since the late eighties), "November-Coming Fire" and "Final Descent"--but also a previously unreleased, live double-CD which features two performances, one from NYC in 1985, and another from Chicago's Metro in 1986.

	Samhain
		In the beginning, Samhain included Lyle Preslar (formerly of Minor Threat) on guitar; Eerie Von (who was working with I'm Afraid at the time) was called in to play bass; long time friend Steve Zing was asked to play drums and do backing vocals.
		It was while Steve Zing was in Samhain that he first interacted with Joseph Jay and asked him to sing for Mourning Noise and later join Chyna on keyboards.
		During the month of November in 1999, members of Samhain reunited for a month long tour and and to celebrate the release of the Samhain Box Set.

		Very cool set of fifteen tracks here recorded way back in '81, on the band's first tour with John Deverill, everybody sick as a dog, in fact (save for future guitar god John Sykes), a NWOBHM whisker away from canceling the show on doctor's orders to do so forthrightly.
		As the construction and assemblage of box sets go, this one, six or seven years in the bloody pudding, is only average.
		Likely the last word on Samhain, the final resplendent spot you should stop at (whenever you are ready) to check off the acquisition and ingestion of this particularly tragically cool corner of rock history, one that defies categories, something Danzig has always figured out how to do.

		Samhain was much less poppy then the Misfits were, which is bad.
		All together this is a great box set the video is great and so is the booklet also it comes with a cool comic.
		The Misfits box set doesn't have a video (which is great by the way) so don't feel bad spending 70 bucks for it.

		While it is nice to be able to get this item without having to shell out the cash for a five-disc set, it suffers from the same relatively cheap makeup as the box, with sparse packaging that looks like a bootleg as opposed to an officially sanctioned release.
		This cd is included in the Samhain box set along with the entire discography of the band.
