Baseball Box Score - Table - MSN Encarta
The box score is one of the most common ways to summarize the details of a baseball game.
Below the inning-by-inning score, the box score notes that Busick’s one hit was a double (two-base hit, or 2B).
In the pitching summaries, the box score shows that the winning pitcher, Such, worked one inning and surrendered no hits or runs while striking out one batter.

Box score (baseball) - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The line score is a two-line chart that reports each team's run totals by inning, and total runs, total hits, and total errors on a line.
A box score is in balance (or proved) when the total of the team's times at bat, bases on balls received, hit batters, sacrifice bunts, sacrifice flies and batters awarded first base because of interference or obstruction equals the total of that team's runs, players left on base and the opposing team's putouts.
In baseball, if the team scheduled to bat last is leading after 8 1/2 innings, there is no turn at bat for that team, as it would not affect the outcome of the game, so the last of the ninth is usually marked with an "X" as a placeholder in the line score.

 The Baseball Scorecard - Scoring
So a line is drawn halfway between first and second in Henry's box and is marked with a '33' to indicate that Jones was the batter.
In Jones' box a 6-4-3 is written along with a 'DP' for the double play and a circled '3' to indicate the third out.
Since this is the third out, a slash is drawn across the lower right-hand corner of Jones' box to indicate the end of the inning.

The box scores were expanded to include strikeouts and walks by position players and the player's batting average.

"They all look the same in tomorrow's box score," is something often heard on the baseball diamond when a hitter gets aboard on a lucky bounce or soft blooper that finds a fortunate grassy landing.
When analyzing expectations for upcoming games and players on hot or cold streaks, it would also be useful information to know that what might look like a slumping hitter going 1-for-8 in his last few games may actually have been him pounding the ball quite well but just not hitting 'em where they ain't.
In every baseball game, there are dozens of examples that should be noted in regards to measuring contribution and actual skill demonstrated.
