Weight class - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Weight classes are divisions of competition used to match competitors against others of their own size.
Weight classes are used in a variety of sports, especially combat sports (such as boxing, judo, wrestling, and mixed martial arts).
It is generally considered an advantage to be the largest individual in a weight division, therefore some athletes will work hard to lose weight through dieting and dehydration prior to weigh-ins.

If boxing is going to let Mike Tyson fight after attempting to eat Evander Holyfield’s ears as a snack, then it is simply unjustifiable to ban a doctor of all people from the sport for trying to cheat for his fighter.
But boxing should be taking a stand to improve the sport, instead of just sweeping the poor elements under the mat and using hype and other sorts of garbage to distract the truths from the people.
However, boxing has rules and although most are not followed, weighing in on the proper mark should be a fighters number one priority.

Although boxing was considered too violent for inclusion at the first modern Olympics in 1896, it showed up as a demonstration sport in 1904 in St. Louis and then as a medal sport in 1908 in London.

Boxing, however, probably grew most specifically out of the demonstrations held at the fives court and the tennis court in London in the early 19th century.
Throughout the 20th century, new weight classes were added, extending the range down to strawweight and up to superheavyweight but with varying agreement over their definitions.
In the late 19th and early 20th century, amateur boxing was encouraged in schools, universities and in the armed forces, but the champions, in the main, came from among the urban poor.
