Boy (album) - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The album was recorded at Windmill Lane Studios in Dublin with Steve Lillywhite producing.
Boy is the only U2 album from which every song (as well as every B-side) has been performed live at least once.
The album was preceded by Three, a three-song EP with different recordings of "Out of Control" and "Stories For Boys" as well as a song called "Boy/Girl".

 Badly Drawn Boy Album Reviews
If his first album had the style and feel of a musical score, then it seems that the ideal second project for Badly Drawn Boy would be to compose an actual soundtrack to a film.
Using the same format as the first album, with 16 short, punchy tracks that utilise a diverse range of instrumentation and orchestration, and containing several instrumental interludes, it is similar to the first album, but nowhere near as accomplished.
It uses the same format as before, with Gough displaying the importance of the album as an art form with all the tracks being linked together using repetition of lyrics and melodies, and some shorter tracks being used an introduction for the next track.

Boy album - the first U2 LP
Despite this, its success in terms of sales was limited, for as an emerging band, U2 could not yet rely on legions of fans to propel their records to the top of the charts.
In fact on its release, 'Boy' failed to enter the british charts, and only reached number 63 in the US (although that was a promising performance for such a new band).
'Boy' was recorded in Windmill Lane Studios in Dublin in the Autumn of 1980, under the supervision of producer Steve Lillywhite.

CD Baby: BOY KATINDIG: Groovin' High
Boy, who also is resident tour pianist-keyboardist for smooth jazz artist Paul Taylor, is joined here by his band who also tours with the saxman.
Boy finally overcame the obstacles which often befall the progeny of many famous people and, in the interim, established a key element in ensuring professional survival: his identity.
Boy's sound has really blossomed into a very mature sound, his solos are so smooth and effortless...they just flow into you.

CLUAS Indie Album Reviews: the new Whipping Boy album
And on the point there is some superb lyricism on the album - "but you wont find gays and lesbians in the emporium of seeds / only perfect boys and girls for suburban garden dreams" on 'Who am I' (an airing of the band's (righteous) views on artificial insemination).
Whipping boy are perhaps one of the few innovative downright unique bands that Ireland has ever had and join My bloody Valentine, the Pogues, a house and Fatima Mansions as unsung national heroes.
With the country succumbing to a gross cosy trendy materialism veiled in pretension and the musical landscape desolate of fresh hope we should thank the stars that a band with intelligent rock and roll principles embedded in their hearts have reformed.

Ian Hunter : All American Alien Boy - Listen, Review and Buy at ARTISTdirect   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-10-14)
Since Hunter couldn't utilize the producing and arranging skills of longtime cohort Mick Ronson because of a dispute with Ronson's manager, Hunter took the reins himself and invited a diverse cast of session musicians that included everyone from journeyman drummer Aynsley Dunbar to jazz bass wizard Jaco Pastorius.
The experiments are hit and miss: the title track is a funky, sax-flavored exploration of Hunter's adjustment to life in America that works nicely, but the interesting lyrics of "Apathy 83" get buried in an uncharacteristically bland soft rock arrangement.
However, the true gem of the album is "You Nearly Did Me In," an elegant and emotional ballad about the emptiness that follows a romantic breakup.

Don Shirley Trio: Water Boy - PopMatters Music Review
It's the first record album I ever truly listened to, it was my dad's, I've been toting it around since the 1960s and I listen to it at least once a week.
As I listened to the album, over and over again on Saturday afternoons, I was in charge of dusting and polishing the living room furniture, vacuuming the carpet, and washing the windows.
The album contains music by Richard Rodgers, "This Nearly Was Mine" in which Shirley's arrangement was influenced by Ezio Pinza's attitude in his performance of the song in "South Pacific".

You have to be a bit of a bad boy to make the gold." Ringo then went on to define his entry into the ranks of bad boys by explaining how at age twenty, against his parents' wishes, he left his apprentice job at a factory to become a full time musician.
This album was particularly meaningful to me, because it came out right before my 16th birthday, and the Ringo special was on the night before that birthday.
This is a crappy album of crappy music planned by blockhead music excecutives (the type that inspired the fabs to create APPLE) and recorded by Ringo when he was drunk out of his mind.

The first album I turned to was Badly Bent, his Best of collection which contains a perfect selection from his first three albums; but really you should listen to the original albums in their entirety to fully appreciate Newell's gifts.
The album begins with a screamer, "Highway 61." Twin guitars of Rheal Lanthier and John "the Ghetto" Gibbard and then Biscuit's high voice, a blend of Robert Johnson howl and Muddy Waters growl.
If this was his only album it would be a classic, but he would soon leave Crowbar and produce one of the greatest blues albums ever made.

Excitable Boy's 1976 predecessor (Warren Zevon) may be a more consistent album, but this is the one that put Zevon in the public consciousness as someone to keep an eye on--for protection as well as promise.
Excitable Boy may have been the album that spawned the man's biggest (and arguably only) hit, but as with Zevon himself, there is much more to this album than just one song.
This album was only released on CD in America once, but the version initially released still seems to be in print, albeit in fairly limited supply.

Fall Out Boy's full-length label debut, Take This to Your Grave is a smart collection of emo-influenced pop-punk tunes.
But Fall Out Boy really necks ahead of the pack behind the enormous voice of dreamboat-in-training lead singer Patrick Stump and lyrical content that merges musings on love and youth with healthy amounts of cutting cynicism, savvy popular culture touchstones, and cheeky phraseology.
Fall Out Boy's positive is its honest intersection of pop's shallow nature with the rippling passion of hardcore.

In fact, he seems never short of lyrics, and his heavy use of interludes brings a cinematic element of theatrics to the album which furthers his sense of character.

Johnny Boy, "Fifteen Minutes" - Johnny Boy's recently-surfaced self-titled album opens with their last single "You Are The Generation That Bought More Shoes And You Get What You Deserve", which I think is probably the least promising way they could have gone.
I have to believe that these are the kinds of considerations they were taking while putting together, because the rest of the album's almost consciously Not Revelatory almost exactly like how "Generation" was.
Be Your Own Pet, "Damn Damn Leash" - Of course, if you DO want to hear a single that may well set the bar too high for anything later, then you might giving Be Your Own Pet one minute and fifty-two seconds of your time.

Bono's viewpoint, still tantalizingly vague and wide-eyed, showed that his penchant for strident polemics hadn't yet gotten the best of him; his anthems are those of a yearning Dubliner barely out of his teens rather than those of a world-weary multimillionaire.
The songs on this album were bland in sound but made up in the lyrical side with heavy hitting lyrics based on many current social issues that affects the world today.
What comes through the most on "Boy" is the urgency & power of U2's musical attack: The Edge's unique, wailing guitar-work, the towering sound from the rhythm section of bassist Adam Clayton and drummer Larry Mullen Jr., and, of course, the soaring, magnificent voice of lead singer Bono.

Tom Paxton "Ramblin' Boy" Liner Notes
Ramblin' Boy was the first major recording statement of Tom Paxton, who had already been a figure on the Greenwich Village folk scene for about four years when the album came out in 1964.
For the actual Ramblin' Boy album, Barry Kornfeld would again be vital to giving the acoustic recording depth, adding banjo, second guitar, and harmonica.
There was "Ramblin' Boy" itself, the wistful ode-to-wanderin' that had already been recorded by the Weavers in 1963, and would later be done (on her obscure first set of recordings) by British folk-rock legend Sandy Denny.
