Some relatives in Nepean wrote to him telling him about the opportunities for school teachers and advised him to come.
Most of the schools in the Nepean area had 40 to 50 students on the rolls, though most likely only about half that number attended at any one time.
Attendance was usually based on the economic resources of the family, with the poorest, unable to afford to send their children.

Phillip Boyce: Oh yes, they often talk about the enteric nervous system rather than the central nervous system, and it is affected by a lot of the same chemicals, particularly seratonin.
Phillip Boyce: Not very good, and most of the medications that are around do tend to slow down the gut or stop the sense of discomfort.
Phillip Boyce: We teach them to make it a more reasonable thought, not to block it, but when they get the sensation in the gut, to be able to say to themselves, 'This is a bit of an uncomfortable sensation in my gut.

 MJA: Hickey et al., Early discharge and risk for postnatal depression
All women who delivered at the Nepean Hospital, NSW, over a three-and-a-half-month period in 1993 were invited to participate in the study.
Women were excluded from the study if their baby was stillborn, born with congenital abnormalities, adopted out, transferred to another hospital, or if the mother was diagnosed as suffering from puerperal psychosis.
Interview: A semi-structured interview (conducted by A R H) was used to assess obstetric history, satisfaction with the labour, whether the delivery was congruent with expectations, the quality of the woman's social support, her personal and family psychiatric history, and the quality of her intimate relationships.

Sadly, the Associate Dean of the Western Clinical School (Nepean campus) Professor Sirus Naraqi was forced to retire on medical grounds late in the year; Professor Michael Peek has stepped in as Acting Associate Dean.
The evening was designed to inform interested members of the public about current research projects at the hospital and to thank the local community for their generous contributions in 2002.
The award was presented at Parliament House in recognition of his work in the study of lymphocytes in relation to chronic lymphocytic leukaemia, a common form of blood cancer.

George Boyce of L.O.L. No. 85, who was to be elected Grand Master of Ontario East in 1907 served on frontier duty during the Fenian troubles of 1870 as a lieutenant of No. 5 Company, Ottawa Brigade Garrison Artillery.
Boyce later served as reeve of the township of Nepean, served twelve years on the municipal council and twice served as the warden of the County of Carleton.
One lesser known Orangeman who served during the Fenian Raids but who was to win a place in Canadian Orange history was George Richardson who was born at Derrylane, County Cavan, Ireland in 1831.
