Boyle County is a county located in the U.S. state of Kentucky.
The county is named for John Boyle (1774-1834), Congressman, Chief Justice of the Kentucky Court of Appeals, U.S. District Judge.
In the county the population was spread out with 22.70% under the age of 18, 11.00% from 18 to 24, 28.60% from 25 to 44, 23.70% from 45 to 64, and 14.10% who were 65 years of age or older.

The name for Boyle County was selected in 1842 to honor Judge John Boyle, an able and prominent justice in the first quarter of the nineteenth century.
A state legislator for three terms, Boyle turned down opportunities to serve as a territorial governor and later as a U.S. Supreme Court Justice.
The county is located in the Bluegrass plateau area of central Kentucky, and was formed from lands previously part of Mercer and Lincoln counties.

In 1992, the Boyle County (Kentucky) Genealogical Association published "Boyle County, Kentucky Cemetery Records, 1792-1992".
The old boundary between Lincoln and Mercer Counties (before Boyle County was formed in 1842), ran very near the Wilson's Station in the forks of Clark's Run [Ref. 2].
While on a visit to the Kentucky Historical Society library in Frankfort, one of the staff members suggested this was a mis-interpretation of "In Memory".

JAMES MILTON JONES was born December 19, 1817, on Hickston Creek, Bath County, KY, where he grew to manhood; in 1835 removed to Mount Sterling; in 1840 to Clark County, where he was deputy sheriff three years, during which time there was not a case of felony in that county.
