What is the last song in the Beatles song catalog that was released while the group was still officially together?
The Beatles collectively contributed so much to music and gave the world so many firsts in their continuous push against the envelope of creativity.

Amazon.com: Sounds Of Summer - The Very Best Of The Beach Boys: Music: The Beach Boys
Lonnie Donegan had already had a hit in the UK with this song, years before, and when the Boys' version was a hit, he re-released his, "Because there's renewed interest in it." Inevitably, his version bombed.
But like "Beatles 1" and "Elvis' 30 Greatest Hits," this Beach Boys set ultimately introduces the band's legendary singles to the youngest music fans, many of whom were just learning to wade when "Kokomo" topped the charts in 1988.
Perfect for those casual fans not yet ready to spring for the individual albums, Sounds of Summer is in many ways a better representation of this legendary band's art than Elvis' 30 No. 1 Hits and The Beatles 1 were of the King and the Fab Four.

 Hard Days Night
in 'A HARD DAY'S NIGHT' it forms the musical backdrop to several different scenes-when the boys are seen chasing across a field after a quick-fire getaway from the television studio and when the incredible race between Beatles, fans and police takes place with the boys tearing along streets and down alleyways in double-quick time.
A Hard Day's Night is heard at the very beginning of the film as the boys sing and play over the opening titles.
Although the voice of George Harrison is much in evidence throughout this album the solo vocal activity on the second side is shared between the songs' composers, John and Paul.

 Baltimore City Paper: COLUMNS
For years I've ached to hear Smile, having read so much about this "lost masterpiece." The story goes something like this: At the time, Beach Boys leader Wilson was competing head to head with the Beatles, each trying to outdo each other in making sophisticated, artful pop songs.
A few songs from those 1966-'67 sessions have been officially released, of course--some on subsequent studio albums and some on the 1993 Beach Boys boxed set, Good Vibrations.
Forget the Sunkist ads; the next time you hear the song on some oldies station, listen as you would to Brian Eno's Another Green World or Joe Henderson's The Elements--listen for the textures.

 Amazon.com: Rubber Soul: Music
Also from nowhere land is "Nowhere Man" with its beautiful and fresh harmonies; although this track is known as the first Beatles song that doesn't talk about romantic love, the song is showing us a lonely man who love is all he needs and is waiting for it.
I know that many Beatles fans consider Rubber Soul to be a masterpiece as well (some of them say that "every Beatles album is a masterpiece"), and some serious fans usually say things like "Rubber Soul is the beginning of the greatness of the Beatles" or "Rubber Soul is a period of transition".
Because the Beatles alone are a whole world, and in the Beatles world Rubber Soul is like Odessey And Oracle (the Zombies) or Forever Changes (Love) in the music world: overlooked.

mediageek: It Takes A Poll to Add An Anti-War Song
So you might hear a protest song from the Beastie Boys, but I can all but guarantee that you won't hear ones from otherwise less commercially proven artists, or artists that are more past their commercial prime.
And I'm sure Clear Channel's classic rockers are probably playing old anti-war songs by the Beatles, Crosby Stills and Nash, and such, primarily because the songs are so entrenched and worn-in that, to an extent, their meaning has been lost, or even just misunderstood.
So, one might argue that their station's decision to add an anti-war song to the playlist is evidence that the pro-war stance is not a corporate-mandated one, but truly the result of individual station initiative.

Richard Morse - The musician who knows more than 2000 songs - Albums
The 50s and 60s are represented by medleys of songs from Elvis (Jailhouse Rock, All Shook Up, Let's Have A Party), the Beatles (Can't Buy Me Love, All My Loving, Help!), and the Beach Boys (Surfin' USA, Fun Fun Fun, Surf City), the latter with Richard once again on 6 layered vocal parts.
In response to requests from fans for an album of the most popular songs from his live shows, Richard's newest album, "Plugged", is a non-stop roller coaster ride through 20th century popular music.
"Hemorrhoids Remind Me Of You" is the only original song on the album, another example of Richard Morse's humorous songwriting.

The inspiration behind the song of the same name, formally known as the "Manhattan Engineering District", this was the combinded effort of the United States with assistance from the United Kingdom and Canada ("all the brightest boys, gathered from across the land") to develop the first nuclear weapons ("big sticks") during World War II.
Undoubtedly the best-known bossa nova song ever written, this song was a worldwide hit in the mid-1960s and is often claimed to be the second-most recorded popular song in history, topped only by The Beatles' "Yesterday".
Eyewitnesses to the historic launch from Red Sector A, Rush later captured the event in the song "Countdown", which is "Dedicated with thanks to astronauts Young and Crippen and all the people of NASA for their inspiration and cooperation".

It was flying home on Tuesday April 11, 1967 that Paul had thought up the lyrics to the title song of his proposed film, Magical Mystery Tour.

Cliff Hillis writes melodic songs reminiscent of the Beatles, Beach Boys and a host of others from the ‘60s.
The first was the sweet "Madeline", a bittersweet love song that was as classic as ‘70s-era Paul McCartney, yet as contemporary as Owsley.
The disc opens with a great power pop track - "So Much To Tell You." "Home" sparkles with the most jangly guitar riffs, and "All These Memories" features some nice Beach Boys production touches.

Some of the best performances on the album come via the more obscure songs, like Klaatu's psychedelic "Silly Boys", which blends acoustic jangle with a reggae shuffle, and Let's Active's moody "Horizon", performed with Don Dixon.
Hoover also changes the arrangements of "Handle with Care" and the Beatles' "Only A Northern Song" enough to avoid instant comparison to the originals.
But in between those selections, one can find the Everly Brothers, Let's Active, Bobby Fuller, covers of "Sukiyaki" and "A Summer Place," and even "Elusive Butterfly", by the elusive Bob Lind.

 The Beach Boys: Album Reviews
I've never been over sold on the Beatles v Beach Boys saga, Wilson may have been the master of a minor key ballad but he simply didn't have enough diversity in his canon to ever be able rival the packages being put together under George Martin''s watchful eye.
While Beach Boys’ strengths like warm vocals and strong melodies are present here, so are weaknesses like ridiculous lyrics (‘Anna Lee, The Healer’), and no single song individually measures up among the groups’ best.
Unfortunately, a lot of people share the opinion that the Beach Boys were all beaches, girls and cars, and no substance, unaware that leader Brian Wilson was among the pioneering group of musicians who shaped pop music in its sixties renaissance.
