Men are often viewed as “big boys who don’t cry,” but House and two others describe how public display of emotion doesn’t make a person less of a man. A man’s environment may also determine how likely he is to shed tears.
Downey also writes that crying can be an escape; it allows people to turn away from the cause of their anguish, and inward toward their own bodily sensations.
House said he doesn’t think that crying makes him less of a man. He said that because he was raised by his mother and sister, he is sensitive.

 PopMatters | Film | Interviews | Kimberly Peirce - Boys Don't Cry
Based on the short life and violent death of Brandon Teena, the Nebraska girl who, in 1993, was murdered for passing as a boy, the movie exposes the instability of identity and the ways we all perform every day.
That's bad enough, but the boy is a girl, so that's a double blow to their masculinity.
Boys take their rage out on girl bodies and girls take it out on their own.

The most impressive aspect of `Boys Don't Cry' is that it refuses to shy away from the sordid details of much of its protagonist's life, yet manages to convert her (or him if you prefer) into a sympathetic and comprehensible figure.
It is a chilling reminder of the danger of the mob mentality unrestrained by empathy and enlightenment.
Like so many of the best off-Hollywood independent productions, `Boys Don't Cry' finds its truth in two crucial elements: the canny depiction of the bleak sterility and stifling provincialism of its Midwest setting and the uniformly first-rate performances by a largely unknown set of actors.

Lana was there in the end to show her that she did care about her no matter if she wasn't a man. To me it showed the beauty of love, and how it is not set by boundaries.

 IGN: Boys Don't Cry Review
In the case of Boys Don't Cry, all those awards probably attracted more viewers to a disturbing story whose themes-- sexual ambivalence and cross-dressing among them-- were less than universal, and likely disturbing to some people.
First-time director Kimberly Peirce enhances the drama of Boys with time-lapse photography and a few other techniques to keep the viewer compelled, and these effects translate well to DVD.
It wouldn?t surprise me if a special edition of Boys Don't Cry arrived on store shelves later this year, since this disc was made prior to Swank?s Oscar win-- the cover art trumpets only her nomination for Best Actress, instead of emphasizing that she walked away with the Oscar.

And then when we have the scene with the tampons and the breast wrapping and we see her legs, the effect is startling, an effect possibly lost on those who knew that the person playing Brandon was a woman.
It was when I saw her legs and could tell at a glance that she was a woman with a woman's legs that I realized just how subtle, but unmistakable are the anatomical sexual differences, and how convincing Swank's portrayal was.

It culls the best tracks from their actual debut album, "Three Imaginary Boys", removing some of the filler ("Meathook", "It's Not You"), and replacing it with their early singles (most notably, "Killing an Arab" and the title track).
Basically the same as their actual debut '3 Imaginary Boys' with the addition of the singles "Killing an Arab" based on Camus' "The Stranger" and the uptempo, anti-conformity ditty "Jumping Someone Else's Train".
Obviously The Cure is the brain-child of Robert Smith, who wrote all of the lyrics on all of their albums, probably most of the music as well, sings, and plays the guitars.

Who's crying over Boys Don't Cry, the wrenching drama about a gender-confused young woman that has earned Hilary Swank a best-actress Oscar nomination and Chloe Sevigny a best-supporting actress nomination?
Not Drew Barrymore, who was to have played Teena Brandon (Swank's character, who passed herself off as Brandon Teena) in a movie that Fox Searchlight abandoned after deciding to release Boys Don't Cry instead.
Peirce says the fact that Boys Don't Cry turned out as well as it did and has earned Oscar nominations indicates that hers "was the movie that was meant to be."
