Radio Prague's Virtual Cemetery - Bozena Nemcova
Bozena Nemcova was, however, apparently born two or three years (1817 or 1818) before the official date of her birth.
Something else strange in Nemcova's life is that it appears that the concern of the nobility for her fate ended abruptly the moment she married, and the Duchess presented her in place of a dowry and dress "only" gold earrings.
Nemcova didn't live to see the man of her dreams, however, so the love she was missing in her life was at least deposited in her stories, fairy tales, and novels.

Central Europe Review - Bozena Nemcova's The Grandmother
Bozena Nemcova (1820 to 1862, with some speculation about the exact year of birth - Wilma A Iggers, in Women of Prague: Ethnic diversity and social change from the 18th century to the present, suggests 1817) was by any standards an unconventional and emancipated woman.
However, Nemcova's life continued to be difficult, blighted by illness and poverty, until her early death in 1862.
This darker side to Nemcova's novel is perhaps the hardest quality to capture in translation, and it is barely comprehensible without some kind of introduction explaining the historical and personal circumstances under which the novel was written.

Nemcova could have easily written idylls based on her personal experiences: she could have given the tenderness of human relations to the environment of servants at a country estate and could have written about heroes who managed to rise among the hierarchy of officials and intellectuals.
He is of the opinion that Nemcova had set out to "create typical characters" and provides convincing evidence that the people from Nemcova´s childhood had indeed been transformed by her fictional changes into typical characters.
But if such an idyll was to come into being, Nemcova had to transform her experience from the servants quarters at a country estate into a harmonic image of village life.
