The implementation of BrMSX started in September of 1997, and the first public release was in November of the same year.
The mouse icon used in the GUI was a rendition of the keyboard of Expert (one of the Brazilian MSX models).
BrMSX sources were released in open source license in 2000.

Fast emulation was achieved by coding the emulator entirely in Assembly, and by using a number of hacks, the most successful being a dirty rectangles implementation known as the video cache.
The Br in the name is an allusion to Brazil, the country where it was coded, but the characters also are the initials of the author, Ricardo Bittencourt.
BrMSX sources were released in open source license in 2000.

brmsx has the right pitch, though it's not good in playing samples, the only thing not right in nlmsx about samples is the samplerate.
The only problem is that BrMSX is entirely coded in assembler language (which is very hard to understand).
Oh, RuMSX does emulates the pop sound when pressing keys, but BrMSX emulation for this particular sound is more "perfect" than any other emulator...

With the BRMSX work, but don't match the disk driver with the hardware emulated by the brmsx, and don't load the user's interface.
I looking for the official brmsx website, but that is down, no more from the url show in the 2.06 version.
Ricardo Bittencourt has his own Yahoo group, where you can find the last versions of BRMSX (2.10 for MS-DOS, 3.0 for Windows, this last one is limited to MSX1).

I was trying to run BRMSX 2.6, and I was getting the following error.
I ran BrMSX v2.6 fine in Win9x, haven't tried it in WinXP yet.
BRMSX 2.10 is in fact an adapted version of BRMSX 2.6 for Windows XP BRMSX 3.0.14 is a very incomplete alpha version of BRMSX that is not conceived for MS-DOS, but for Win 32.

 BlueMSX is very fast growing MSX emulator. (Emulation Foros MSX)
In nowadays emulators I miss more debugging functions: only BrMSX and NO$MSX are good for this purposes, but both are out-dated and not very compatible with Win XP.
There is a BrMSX version patched to work with XP, but it lacks of sound.
I should disagree with that: BrMSX is one of the most accurate MSX1 emulation around.

All tests are performed in 10 seconds, and the program counts how many times the routine has executed.

 Snatcher - A tradução - Modo de Compatibilidade
The portuguese translated game uses the same resources needed by the original version provided by Martos: 128Kb of memory mapper and a normal SCC (Satcher and SD-Snatcher SCC+ will also work, full featured, of course!).

 Super Deform Snatcher
You'll need a MSX2 with 64Kb RAM, 128Kb VRAM and a 2DD diskdrive to run the original, and a SCC and a 128Kb Memory Mapper for the crack.
It works on fMSX 2.2 and newer versions of BrMSX (or so I've heard).
The game was never released outside Japan, although some copies were imported into Holland.

Bad news which had to be announced: Ricardo Bittencourt officially discontinued BrMSX.
But, according to AAMSX (where I saw this news) there's some good news regarding BrMSX...
During 2001, BrMSX will be split in two projects: BrMSX-Win, a Windows/DirectX version of BrMSX, and BrMSX-on-a-chip, which is a hardware implementation of BrMSX using FPGA technology.

y ponerlo en el directorio donde tengáis el emulador brmsx.
Las diferencias entre uno y otro emulador es que el brmsx mas rápido,carga mejor los programas del msx1 y se pueden grabar las partidas pero emula peor el msx2 y el msx2+.
Tanto el fmsx-dos y el brmsx tienen otras muchas opciones que se pueden manipular como el tipo de resolución,tarjeta de sonido........Todas estas opciones las podréis ver en el fichero de texto que lleva consigo el propio emulador.

Another trick: you can play as Pentaro in Nemesis 2, just put Penguin Adventure in slot 2 of your MSX 2.
To see the ending screen of this game, just download this BRMSX save state to your BRMSX directory, and rename it to "BRMSX.STA".
Then start the emulator, click a mouse button to call the menu, and select LOAD STATE.

A BrMSX frontend for Windows has been released by Slotman which makes BrMSX a lot easier to use.
The author claims that his software isn't compatible with a large amount of sound and video boards.
Sounds like a different course and a interesting future for the DOS native program is on the way.

The first 3 are Memory-Based, which means that can only be used with MSKISS, fMSX, RuMSX, etc...
and they can NOT be used if you want disk access through I/O ports D0..D5, like BrMSX does.
In this last case, a different DISK BIOS dump (Port-Based) is needed.

This release has a HUGE number of fixes and new things and you should probably download this :) Thanks to Sonikku_a for the news.
Apparently the new Snes9x is incompatible with Banshee cards, and BrMSX is quite unstable and has other problems as well.
Both emus are written by very talented authors, so it's only a matter of time before such matters are fixed.
