It is the right forum Gayla, but the systematics of Brachioteuthis are in a bit of a mess.
I'm relieved to learn that this happens to others because this year's project is...
Hopefully a Brachioteuthis update will come in a week or two.

Cephalopods in Action--Roper and Vecchione, 1996
During a series of submersible dives off Cape Hatteras, North Carolina, eastern U.S., three pairs of Brachioteuthis were seen, and one pair was video-taped.
Although we were unable to capture any of the coupling pairs to determine their stage of maturity, we believe this unusual activity represents mating behavior.
Brachioteuthis beanii was observed on five of the 15 dives at depths of 500 m, 700 m, two at 800 m, and 860 m.

 Cephalopods in Action--Vecchione, 2001.
The slope-water cephalopods include the commercially important genus Illex, taxonomy of which remains troubling in the area off Charleston because of the possibility that I.
Other common species include another ommastrephid Ornithoteuthis antillarum, single species of Mastigoteuthis, Brachioteuthis, and Pholidoteuthis, several cranchiids, histioteuthids, and sepiolids, two octopodids, the pelagic incirrate octopod Haliphron atlanticus, and the cirrate octopod Stauroteuthis syrtensis.
Behavior and distribution of these species contrast with those of truly open-ocean cephalopods, which are also present in slope waters.

Fish and Squid   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-10-23)
They are major prey for higher predators, including toothed whales, seals and seabirds.
Squid range in size from the small (c.15 cm) Brachioteuthis to the enormous (4 m) Mesonychoteuthis, which has large hooks, as well as suckers, on its arm and tentacles for capturing prey.
The octopus fauna are less well known and despite the fact that they are very common, there are undoubtedly many species in Antarctic benthic ecosystems which are currently unknown to science.

These two back-to-back cruises provide a starting point for a critical evaluation of whether the composition of seamount fauna is specific to the seamount, or is influenced by the composition of the US NE continental slope.
Six of the ten most abundant taxa are found on both the slope and on the seamount: Illex illecebrosus, Mastigoteuthis magna, Histioteuthis reversa Taonius pavo, Teuthowenia megalops and Brachioteuthis sp.
Three out of 20 species collected on the slope cruise are only found only on the slope: the common neritic sepiolids Rossia sp.
