WA Team of the Century - Backs
Brad Hardie is perhaps best remembered for being one of the most highly decorated footballers of all time.
Hardie moved to Collingwood in 1991 but, with his best years clearly behind him, he failed to ignite, and after 2 erratic seasons decided to call it a day.
Hardie habitually wore a long-sleeved playing jumper in order to hide from view the scars which covered his arms, legacy of serious burns received as a child.

Newport said Hardie's comments in describing Rohde as struggling as a coach and needing to be firmer with players were particularly disappointing and ill-informed because he had not held a role with the coaching or preparation of the senior list.
Hardie said he had twice spoken with Rohde since he made the comments on radio station 3AW and that his role at the Bulldogs was far from over.
Newport said Hardie would have to live by his comments and that he would not be shunned from club functions or working with the club in another capacity.

Hardie claims Malthouse to quit inaccurate: Pies - News - www.realfooty.com.au
COLLINGWOOD has rejected claims from Brownlow medallist Brad Hardie that illness could force coach Mick Malthouse to quit his job at the end of the season.
Hardie, who famously fell out with Malthouse when the pair were at Footscray in the 1980s, pulling off his Bulldog jumper in protest when Malthouse took him from the field, said that Garry Lyon or Wayne Carey had been earmarked to take over.
Hardie's newspaper column also brought a stern denial from Collingwood president Eddie McGuire, who described it as a "kite-flying exercise".

Hardie happy to look to his laurels - Sport - www.theage.com.au
Brownlow medallist Brad Hardie reflects on the last time Brisbane won under lights at the MCG - in 1988.
I thought the way he went about it was outstanding and to win five of the last seven, and really putting the onus on that group of players, and we had Raines, Richardson, Williams, Hardie and Merrett, we had a fairly formidable unit if you put it together on the day.
The graph goes in a rise and then it starts to fall and I think it's a matter of picking the time when it starts to fall that maybe Mick needs to move on or they revamp that playing group so that he can start again.

It's a toughie because back pocket's also traditionally a position where fading players go to die...can recall many a player who plied their trade successfully upfield, only to be told in their twilight years to go and man up on some punk goalsneak or resting rover.
Hardie was an out and out champion, what a tragedy we only got 2 seasons from him.
I was shattered when he departed and his playing for Brisbane gave me a reason to enjoy watching the Bears on those Sunday afternoons back in those days at Carrara.

Brad Green and Travis Johnstone provided class and goals off their wings, but Daniher's midfield mix was really hurt by the 10-game absence of his best hardball winner Scott Thompson.
Brad Miller gave the Dees a target across half-forward, while Bruce (33 goals) offered a good mid-size mix.

However, a highly publicised contretemps with Footscray coach Michael Malthouse precipitated Hardie's departure from the Western Oval and the 1987 season saw him taking the field at Carrara with the fledgling Brisbane Bears.
Nevertheless, during his peak years of the mid-1980s, with his trademark long-sleeved jumper (see footnote 1), flame red hair, and effervescent dashes out of the Footscray or Western Australian backlines, he was one of Australia's most instantly recognisable, and highly talented, footballers.
