The Washington Post reported that by 5pm on Saturday, Sept. 24, the Metro rail ridership was 292,771, contrasted to 173,572 on an average Saturday.
“Metro riders encountered delays as well because trains on the blue and yellow lines in northern Virginia were sharing a single track to allow to repair work on a switch at Braddock Road,” according to the Post.

I grew up in Central Jersey near the shore, where you got great pizza and subs just about everywhere and you never had to be subjected to the lousy mass produced garbage that passes for pizza and subs down here.
They also are one of the few places to use rolls from John's Bakery which are the best in town and the italian and cheesesteak subs are all the better for it.
I hope your reference to DC as a "culinary wasteland" has to do with its perceived lack of good pizzas and subs, and was not intended to be a commentary on the restaurant scene as a whole here.
