The college was founded in the 1850s by Thomas Stevens, Rector and Lord of the Manor of Bradfield.
Bradfield is most renowned for its Greek theatre and triennial Greek play, which is performed on a three-year rota ('presumably', says Tatler's Good Schools Guide, 'it takes that long to build up the stamina again) in conjunction with Cambridge University and Oxford University respectively.

The 1891 Census shows Bradfield has having a population of 1036, 145 were classed as labourers, 48 were servants and 177 were listed as Scholars or children of school age.

Bradfield College, Reading was once again the destination for talented European cricketers and developing coaches attending the ECC Youth Camp held from the 13th-17th April.
Bradfield College has been the host of the camp for the last four years and once again the wonderful facilities allowed the camp to be a success.
One of the most pleasing areas of the 2004 Youth Camp was the standard of the players which continues to rise each year and hopefully this trend will continue for future camps.

The European Development Programme's third Youth Coaching Camp was held at Bradfield College in Berkshire from 29 Marchñ1 April.
Twenty-six youngsters and eleven coaches from eleven European countries attended, and were put through their paces by Richard O'Sullivan, BrÌan O'Rourke, David Bordes, Roland Butcher, Bruce Smuts, Mike Flockhart and the EDO over the course of the four days.
Particularly worthy of mention are two bat winners - Saverio from Italy and Jo-Antionette from Austria.
