Bradfield Scheme no solution to drought
A large part of Dr Bradfield’s scheme relied on gravity to move the water from one catchment to another.
The reality is that the Bradfield scheme cannot stand up to scientific or economic scrutiny as shown by reviews in 1947 and in the early 1980s.
Bradfield did not take into account the cost of pumping and was unaware that a large amount of the water diverted would be lost through evaporation.

The Bradfield Scheme - The Greatest Scheme of All
But Dr. Bradfield is possibly better known for something that he did not build, his magnificent plan for the watering of the inland Australia which he presented to the Queensland government in 1938, following a lifelong interest in irrigation and water conservation.
Bradfield’s plan involved diverting the waters of the upper reaches of the Johnson, Tully, Herbert, Burdekin and Flinders Rivers one into the other, then into the Thompson, thence into Lake Eyre, refilling it and, with evaporation, creating a climate change and rainfall throughout inland Australia.
In evidence on the Bradfield Scheme to the Commonwealth Rural Reconstruction Commission, an engineer - H. Moss, A.M.I.E. (Aust.) - told the commission that some parts of the scheme were feasible, that many of Bradfield’s claims could not be justified, and that no firm opinion could be expressed on other points without further technical investigation.

 NR&M proves Bradfield Scheme ineffective
A large part of Dr Bradfield’s scheme relied on gravity to move the water from one catchment tom another.  The design of these gravity diversions was based on height information obtained from a barometer that he carried on horseback, and extremely sparse stream flow data available at the time.
Bradfield did not take into account the cost of pumping and was unaware that the majority of water diverted would be lost in evaporation.
Nowadays, it is regarded to be poor environmental practice to transfer water from one catchment to another.  Allowing aquatic plant and animal species to move from their native catchments runs the risk of upsetting delicate ecological balances in these waterways, which naturally depend on periods of wet and dry.

 The Fast Lifting Wavelet Transform
Adapting the lifting scheme we will be well armed: amongst our weaponry are such elements as[7] easy invertibility of any transform, in-place calculation of the transform and easy integer transform coefficients without losing any of its features.
The lifting scheme on the other hand is a really general scheme, which makes it very suitable for experimenting while the in-place and integer properties make it extremely useful for embedded systems where memory is still expensive.
One of the advantages of the lifting scheme as pointed out in for instance [Dau97] and [Cal96] is that the lifting scheme allows for an introduction into wavelet theory without the use of Fourier theory.

Australian drought sparks debate over the direction of water usage
Among ideas floated in recent days is the revival of a scheme dreamed up in the 1930s by the designer of Sydney Harbor Bridge, John Bradfield, to redirect rivers that flow into the sea off Australia's northeast coast and harness their waters to irrigate crops.
One of their main ideas is breathing new life into the Bradfield plan to redirect rivers -- although they haven't elaborated on how it would be done or what it would cost.
However, the government embarked in August on a long-term project to rejuvenate the Snowy after admitting that the ambitious scheme, often lauded as Australia's greatest feat of civil engineering, had almost destroyed the river.
