Bradford is the major settlement in the City of Bradford Metropolitan District, in the county of West Yorkshire in the north of England.
Bradford was one of the contenders for 2008 European Capital Of Culture, eventually losing to the city of Liverpool.
Bradford's tram system was begun by Bradford Corporation in 1882: at first the vehicles were horse-drawn, but they were replaced by steam-driven trams in 1883, and by electric ones in 1898.

Even though Bradford continued to score consistently and the team remained a competent second division side throughout the fifties, by the end of that decade the team was faltering and Bradford played out the twilight of his career back in the third division after relegation in 1962, not always at centre forward.
Bradford ended his career as Rovers all time leading goalscorer, remaining so to this day, and is one of a cluster of players to have scored four goals in a game for the club, achieving this feat against Rotherham United in 1959.
Bradford's fantastic service and loyalty, as late as 1961 Bill Shankly was trying to take him to Liverpool without success, was rewarded with a testimonial in 1964.

The City faithful thought otherwise and, following a vigorous grassroots campaign, the decision was taken to return to the club's spiritual home and build a stadium that would be a fitting memorial to those who had lost their lives in the fire.
Though City were struggling in the relegation places during the 1986-87 season, the return to Valley Parade in December 1986, when an England XI played City in a celebration opening game, was a huge boost to flagging morale.
To recover from the aftermath of the fire disaster, build a virtually new stadium and then come within an ace of the First Division was truly remarkable.
