Bradley John Murdoch was arrested primarily because he was found to have left Alice Springs at a time and in a direction that may have led to him being at or about Barrow Creek at the time of the alleged offence.
Bradley John Murdoch did not match the descriptions given by Joanne Lees, nor was his description, that of his car, or that of his dog even remotely similar to the detailed descriptions given by Lees.

Bradley John Murdoch (born 1958) is a convicted Australian murderer, currently serving life imprisonment with a minimum non-parole period of 28 years for the July 2001 murder of disappeared British backpacker Peter Falconio.
In 1995 Murdoch served 15 months imprisonment for shooting at Aborigines who were celebrating at a football match in the remote Kimberley region of Western Australia.
In December 2005, Murdoch was convicted by the Supreme Court in Darwin for the murder of Peter Falconio on a remote stretch of road in outback Northern Territory on July 14, 2001.
