The Center to Prevent Handgun Violence was renamed The Brady Center to Prevent Gun Violence on June 14, 2001 in honor of Jim and Sarah Brady.
The Brady Center to Prevent Gun Violence is a national nonprofit organization to help America understand the realities of handgun violence and the dangers posed by loaded, easily available handguns.
The Center educates the public about ways to reduce gun violence through partnerships with experts in medicine and public health, law, education, law enforcement, community groups, the media, and the entertainment industry.

Americans who contribute to the John Lennon Tribute benefit concert in the belief they are supporting relief organizations that responded to the World Trade Center Attack could find their donations going instead to the Brady Center to Prevent Gun Violence, Million Mom March and Violence Policy Center.
Now, according to a Brady Center press release "a portion" of the proceeds will be divided among those organizations.
Gottlieb noted recent disclosures that the Brady Center and Million Moms have fallen on hard financial times because people have learned that gun control is a losing issue.

By concealing the data, ATF is preventing the public from learning which firearms dealers have sold the most crime guns even though reports ATF has published have noted that just over one percent of dealers are linked to more than 57 percent of crime guns recovered nationwide and traced.
