Guardian Unlimited Sport | Horse racing | Horse racing: Hurricane blows in for Fallon
Brahminy Kite, from Mark Johnston's yard in Yorkshire, finished fourth at 33-1.
Hurricane Run was judged an unlucky loser in the French Derby earlier this month, when his late run from behind a wall of horses just failed to carry him past Shamardal, the subsequent winner of the St James's Palace Stakes.
The evidence of yesterday's race, though, was that he needs every yard of 12 furlongs at Group One level, rather than the mile and a quarter that now comprises the Classic test in France.

GEEZER REINFORCES LEGER CLAIMS: Sporting Life - Racing | Ayr Gold Cup, Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe, Breeders' Cup, ...
Five lengths separated the winner and Unfurled at the winning post, a margin that did not flatter the winner with the runner-up having to be hard ridden all the way to the line by Kieren Fallon to hold off Brahminy Kite for second place.
The Geezer's performance was hardly undermined by efforts of Unfurled and Brahminy Kite, both of whom came into the race with Classic form.
And on an admittedly-sketchy line through Brahminy Kite in the Irish Derby, The Geezer would not be far away from Leger favourite Scorpion.

Scorpion, one of seven entries from Ireland's champion trainer Aidan O'Brien, was beaten only half a length by Hurricane Run at the Curragh, while the John Oxx-trained Shalapour was a further four lengths in arrears, with British raider Brahminy Kite fourth, Fracas seventh and Walk In The Park eighth.
She rewarded connections for supplementing her for the Group Two Ribblesdale Stakes at Royal Ascot at York by winning, while Plea Bargain, Gosden's second entry, was victorious in the King Edward VII Stakes at the same meeting by three-quarters of a length and the same again from Brahminy Kite and The Geezer.
Brahminy Kite's trainer, the Yorkshire-based Mark Johnston has also entered Melrose Avenue, winner of the Group Three Queen's Vase over two miles at Royal Ascot at York from Mr Vegas who franked the form by winning the Listed Bahrain Trophy at Newmarket last week, and Hearthstead Wings.

Brahminy Kite should continue to progress with experience and, though he is likely to prefer a stiffer test, he sets the standard for the ABN Amro Stakes on the first day of Glorious Goodwood.
The one he has to beat is The Geezer who may have finished ahead of him at York but for being hampered by the winner, Plea Bargain, but Brahminy Kite is open to more improvement than his rival.
