If you study the brains of uncommonly intelligent or creative people — the great scientist Joseph Leidy or poet Walt Whitman, for example — and compare their brains with the ignorant or insane, it might reveal the secrets of human intelligence.
The brains of those who joined "The Brain Club" or "The American Antropometric Society" now rest in a dark closet in at the Wistar Institute, the nation's oldest non-profit medical research center on the campus of the University of Pennsylvania.
Edward A. Spitzka in 1907 examined the brains of "six eminent scientists and scholars belonging to the American Anthropometric Society." A 1927 study was performed on the brains of "three scholars," including the famed physician Sir William Osler.

The subtly subversive plot is about society's ongoing search for the perfect "happy drug," and the Kids inhabit a multitude of costumes and characters as they celebrate--and lament--the invention of "Gleemonex," the ultimate antidepressant, which locks users into their happiest memories...
Brain Candy is an authoritative, comprehensive, and above all, cutting-edge look at what you can take to rev up your brain -- enhance memory, think faster, sharpen creativity, focus better.

"Brain Candy" sews together various vignettes of dysfunctional people (all portrayed by KITH in different costumes) and centers them around a group of scientists at Roritor Pharmaceuticals who are developing Gleemonex, the ultimate anti-depressant.
The premise of "Brain Candy" is very similar to Hirokazu ("Nobody Knows") Kore-eda's 1988 film "After Life." In that film, social workers at a purgatory-ish way station assist the recently deceased with creating short films of their happiest memories, which will be replayed for eternity.

Unpredictable short skits about twisted characters played by comic actors who were obviously having a lot of fun made Kids in the Hall the sketch comedy show that Saturday Night Live should be (which makes Kid in the Hall Mark McKinney's role on this season's weak SNL a bit disappointing).
Like the show, Brain Candy features each Kid playing a number of characters -- Bruce McCullough as Grivo, a happy-to-be-depressed headbanging rocker, is especially funny.
But ultimately, the movie is no more than a bunch of different sketch characters, some funny, some not (Cancer Boy, for example) strung together by a plot that's trite at best and inappropriate at worst.

What the Kids have brought us with Brain Candy is a 90 minute skit about a drug company and its hapless employees who invent the penultimate "happy pill," GleeMonex.
The only problem, they later discover, is that those that take the pill commonly become comatose due to the ecstasy caused by it...which isn't such a happy result after all.
Good characters in a crummy story don't make for particularly good time, but there are plenty of laughs to be had by all scattered throughout the film.
