Brain freeze is an intense stabbing headache-like pain that occurs after consuming something cold, and it affects about 30 percent of the population.
Simply put, Brainfreeze occurs when the Slurpee (or anything cold) touches the roof of your mouth, the collection of nerves in the roof of your mouth (called the spheno-palantine ganglion) go into a spasm (a spasm is like a cramp).
The pain of brainfreeze begins a few seconds after the rapid ingestion of cold foods or beverages (such as ice cream or slurpees or yellow snow)and peaks in 30-60 seconds, and can last up to 5 minutes.
That's the sound your mouth makes when it sucks in a straw-full of frosty flavor, just before your brain kicks in with the message that, whoa, this is way too cold.
The phrase was coined and registered as BrainFreeze in 1994 by 7-Eleven, home of the Slurpee.
The frozen carbonated beverage was invented in 1959 by Omar Knedlik, owner of a Dairy Queen in Coffeyville, Kan. Knedlik first served them in frosty soda bottles, then bought a machine that would mix, freeze and serve his concoction.

Unlike the flimsy cheap plastic straws you get for free at 7-11, the Brainfreeze Straw has a sturdy flat base which lets you get to bottom of the cup where there is always guaranteed to be something, at least the melted juice stuff.
Even when your Slurpee is almost gone and getting a nice chunk of Slurpee without air holes is getting difficult, you can use the flat base of the Brainfreeze Straw to push down the Slurpee, thus filling the empty base of the straw with Slurpee and removing air holes at the same time.
The big spoon on the front of the base is easily 5 or 6 times as big as a normal straw's scoop.

Even infamous murderer Charlie Manson is not safe from the parody skills of BrainFreeze.
Along with their annual shows at the Capri at Halloween, Christmas and during the summer, the group also has done monthly shows at 1048 Jazz and Blues Club.

Either that or you actually ate the ice-cream at 10:30 and you've only just thawed...
I always enjoy ice-cream but as with so many things in life, dislike the bit shortly before the eating that involves me handing over hard(ish) earned currency.
