Brainstorm (1983 film) - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Brainstorm is a 1983 MGM horror/thriller/science fiction film directed by Douglas Trumbull and starring Christopher Walken and Natalie Wood (in her last film appearance).
Near the end of principal photography Wood was about to film a crucial, climactic scene for the movie when she tragically drowned on November 29, 1981, leaving production in limbo for almost two years.
Brainstorm is also the title of a 1965 movie by William Conrad with Dana Andrews.

The movie holds up well twenty years after its conception, which is saying a lot considering how far film effects have come during that time.
I will still watch "Brainstorm" from time to time, but I secretly yearn for a special edition release in the near future--one with a commentary from Fletcher and Walken at the very least, along with some notes about the special effects in the film.
Brainstorm is a fascinating but frustrating film, simply because it dabbles in greatness but fails to develop the fullest implications of its provocative ideas.

Strange Days (film) - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
These clips are recorded from the cerebral cortex through a device called a SQUID and can be played back by another individual through a MiniDisc-like device (a similar concept was featued in the 1983 movie Brainstorm).
Juliette Lewis' two songs in the film, both originally written and performed by PJ Harvey, are not lip-synced.
The movie helped propel the term Y2K into the public consciousness, albeit as a revolutionary street slang term instead of a computer glitch.

"Brainstorm" is the science fiction film that was almost left unfinished because of star Natalie Wood's death in an accident unrelated to the shooting.
It was worth waiting for, but obscurities and a flawed ending could turn off critics, who will probably determine its boxoffice fate.
"Brainstorm" is unusually mature for a science fiction film.

Brainstorm~ Douglas Trumbull is a movie that tells the story about a team of scientist headed that have created a machine that can record memories.
The movie also lacks a good soundtrack and the music in the movie is minimal and that could have been something that they could have put a bit more time and effort on.
Apart from this, Brainstorm is a delightfull movie that is still very relevent and has amazing actors in it.

Once the capability of tapping into "higher brain functions" is added in, and you can literally jump into someone else's head and play back recordings of what he or she was thinking, feeling, seeing, etc., at the time of the recording, the applications for the project quickly spiral out of control.
Asia Argento isn't that bad to look at is she and there are loads of tetas in the movie as well.
Not only is the whole story quite boring, after about 2/3 of the movie it just starts repeating scenes from the beginning, now in a different order.

DVD Talk Forum - Brainstorm 1983: Which Release Is Better?
The movie's aspect ratio varies from 1.66:1 to 2.35:1.
In the theater, the 1.66:1 portions were pillarboxed in the center of the frame, and then the picture would expand outwards during the "brainstorm" sequences.
This means that the "real world" scenes take up a larger field of view than the "brainstorm" scenes, which is exactly the opposite of the intended effect.

From the opening seconds of Brainstorm, the second of special effects expert Trumbull’s two attempts at directing (the other is the intriguing Silent Running (1971), where again Trumbull shows an inability to deal with the concepts his material raises.
For as long at it concerns itself with its science, Brainstorm retains some conviction, despite the cliches of the plotline; but as soon as the focus becomes Lillian’s after-death experience, the film loses its grip.
The highlight of the film is the scene in which Michael and Karen conspire to destroy the project by hacking into the controlling computer system, covering their actions with a telephone conversation so nauseating and maudlin that the people bugging their phones barely listen to it.

 MusicSearcher.com: James Horner | Brainstorm (1983 Film)
One of the strengths of Douglas Trumbull's criminally neglected 1983 science fiction/suspense thriller BRAINSTORM is the innovative music score that the young James Horner provided.
One of the most notable things about this soundtrack is that it not only was it a digital recording--a rarity in 1983, the year of its release--but it was also recorded direct to two-track digital.
This 1983 sci-fi thriller from director Douglas Trumbull is a special effect and cinematographers dream come true.

Trumbull originally wanted to shoot the movie in a proprietary film format called ShowScan (a 60fps 70mm-based process) but eventually had to settle for a mix of 35 and 65mm (35mm for the story, and 65mm for the “in-head” sequences, which also feature Trumbull’s full arsenal of unique optical effects).
For a movie so heavily reliant on the impact of its visuals, a pan-and-scan transfer is inexcusable.
An interesting sci-fi foray into an always-fascinating concept, Brainstorm is flawed but still worth the time, not least for a pair of great performances by Louise Fletcher and the ever-reliable Christopher Walken.

For some reason, The Dead Zone has always been one of my least favorite Stephen King novels, but I have to say this movie adaptation of the novel is first-rate indeed, one of the most underappreciated of all the movies based on the work of the king of horror.
While that is of course the focus of the concluding minutes, the movie itself is all about Johnny's struggles to come to terms with his new life, a new life which includes a frightening power to see into the past and future of those whom he physically touches.
Many of the early movies based on King novels did not translate to the big screen very effectively, but The Dead Zone is an often overlooked and very impressive exception.
