  Brainstorm (Latvian band) - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The band was formed in the summer of 1989 in Jelgava, Latvia by four old classmates Renārs Kaupers, Jānis Jubalts, Gundars Mauševics and Kaspars Roga.
Brainstorm's first international single was recorded in the year of 1998 in Germany with Volker Hinkel, the producer of Fool's Garden.
In 2004 Brainstorm and a well-known Russian band Би-2 recorded a song “Скользкие улицы” which is included in the new album of Би-2 “Иномарки” released on 2nd of March, 2004 and which has taken position number 1 on radio charts in Latvia, Ukraine and Russia.

Brainstorm is akin to a crossing of Queensryche, Nevermore or perhaps a metallic Fates Warning on one side with Judas priest on the other.
Brainstorm has not exactly been one of Metallian Towers favourite bands or even particularly well-received in the past, but that has now changed with the release of the impressive new album Liquid Monster which storms the brain with top-notch heavy metal.
Brainstorm's album has now been released world-wide and the quintet is planning on being on the road for the foreseeable future.

In fact there was a late 1960's early 1970's German Brainstorm and there's an Australian group that started in the 1980's that's still going strong today.
But the one that matters to us is a homegrown band of Motown funksters that formed in 1976 and had a brief three album four year career.
When Brainstorm's second album failed to sell, some people reasoned that it was due to a shortage of up-tempo disco material.

Brainstorm, despite the name and its obvious associations with SpaceRock founders Hawkwind, do not present as with typical SpaceRock in the sense most of us are familiar.
Brainstorm consists of Steve Bechervaise (keyboards), Craig Carter (Lead, Steel and Wooden Guitars, Vocals), Vittorio Di Lorio (Drums, Keyboards), Paul Foley (Vocals, Acoustic and Visibel Guitars) and Jeff Powerlett (Bass and Air Guitars, Vocals).
Brainstorm performed in front of a fairly small but appreciative crowd one Wednesday night in February, and I was lucky enough to attend.

We actually talked about doing something with him before he joined Brainstorm and so as we started speaking about getting him as a permanent vocalist and member of the band it was a very easy decision and he has almost been in the band for three years now.
Queensryche is definitely a great band and of course I like their music very much but I think that we should mainly create our own style of music over the years.
One of the bands that we really like is Judas Priest who is one of our big heroes but all of the members have different favorites.

Brainstorm come from Melbourne, Australia and were formed some twelve years ago, initially playing as a covers band.

Initially unable to find a suitable singer, the band solved the problem when Marcus Jürgens joined the band, being named “Newcomers of the Month” by the German Rock Hard magazine with their third demo “The Fifth Season”, released in 1994.
In October 2001 the band released “Metus Mortis”, a high-energy metal classic produced by Achim Köhler, which became Album of the Month in several metal magazines, paving the way for a successful tour with Grave Digger and Tierra Santa.
In March 2003 the band returned to the studio (House of Music, as well as the band’s own Storm Your Brain Studios) with Achim Köhler to record “Soul Temptation”, already the fifth album in their career.

BrainStorm gained their reputation as the good guys of Latvian rock with the 1996 release of the Veronica album.
It was really worth it as at the end of the year their hit Under My Wing, after nine weeks (including Christmas week!) being at the peak of the Latvian Airplay chart became the best-selling single of year 1996.
This was followed by instant triumph at the Karlshamn (Sweden) festival where BrainStorm with their explosive stage show became the Grand Prix winners and the collective favorites.

BRAINSTORM is an early 70's fusion quintet from Baden-Baden whose influences range from ZAPPA to SOFT MACHINE, CARAVAN and SUPERSISTER.
The core of the band is made up of a trio of schoolmates with conservatory training: Roland Schaeffer on sax, vibraphone, guitar, bass and vocals; Eddy von Overheidt on organ, piano and vocals; and Joe Koinzer on drums and percussion.
Finally, "From Fashion Pink to Brainstorm" (2001) is a compilation of their early material, from their FASHION PINK days.

The band's history totals 18 years, and their discography includes four full-length albums.
These are "Brainstorm" (1993), "Earth 0" (1995/2000), "Tales of the Future" (1998) and "Desert World" (2005), although only the latter three are CD releases, while the former is available only on cassette, at least so far.
Casting aside Brainstorm's open and hidden hints of their mighty benefactors, I can say all in all, their "Desert World" is 72 minutes (a double album actually) of enjoyable Space Rock, which is a rare case nowadays.
