Joe Mabel: The Interview Brainteaser and its Discontents - 7
I sometimes use a brainteaser when I am interviewing someone who is relatively inexperienced and there isn't much material for me to work from on his or her resume.
In any case, a brainteaser well-used in an interview is, precisely, a tool to learn something about how someone thinks.
Conversely, few of us are experts at learning how someone else thinks, and throwing brainteasers at them is not, in and of itself, sufficient to learn that.

John Kador, author of a new book called How to Ace the Brainteaser Interview (McGraw-Hill, $14.95), estimates that brainteasers make up only about 10% of the interview process at companies that use them, but that 10% could make or break you.
This is a great opportunity for HR professionals, line managers, recruiters and anyone else involved in the hiring process to take a measured look at brainteasers to determine when (and if) to use them during interviews.
It is a must-have book for job seekers so that they will always be prepared for what may seem off-the-wall questions raised by those interviewers who may not have had the chance to read this book before deciding to do so.
