The award itself is an eight-inch replica of a fanciful haunted house, designed specifically for HWA by sculptor Steven Kirk.
The winners are announced and the awards presented at a gala banquet held in conjunction with HWA's annual conference, usually in June.

To be able to nominate someone for a Hugo or the JWC award, you would either have to have been an attending member of last year's Worldcon in Boston or an attending or supporting member of this year's Worldcon (the membership has to have been bought by Jan. 31).
I continue to be intrigued by the fact that the Wooden Rocket Awards for sf-related websites received 12,000 ballots last year, despite the fact that you had to sign up for their newsletter two months in advance in order to vote.

On June 7, 2003, at the annual Bram Stoker Award Dinner in New York City, horror author and comic book scripter Robert Weinberg was named Stoker Award winner for his script for Nightside 1-4 (published in 2001-2002 by Marvel Comics).
It was the second nomination in that category for Weinberg in the past three years, with his Cable story, "The Undying" a nominee for the 2000 award.
This is the second Stoker Award for Weinberg, who won as Best Editor in 1999 for his anthology, Horrors, 365 Scary Stories.

In 1998 they created a category for Illustrated Narrative to accommodate comic books, graphic novels, or even series of illustrations that didn't fit into prose.
They argued that too many categories watered down the prestige of the Stoker, that Illustrated Narrative had some of the lowest participation from Stoker voters, and that the comic book community didn't recognize the award as a mark of quality.
The results of the election came in this week and the Illustrated Narrative category was eliminated by a vote of 70-40.
