  Bellevue Avenue Branch Library
The Bellevue Avenue Branch Library was built in 1914 with a generous donation from Andrew Carnegie.
The land on which the branch stands was purchased with the fines the library collected in one year.
Today, the branch library continues to be used by the children from the three area schools as well as serve as a popular materials library for the local citizenry.

Branch Avenue is also Route MD-5, and serves as an arterial highway between southeastern D.C. and southern Prince George's County, Maryland, and it has a cloverleaf interchange with the Beltway.
The Branch Avenue Station was built with parking lots for 3,000 long-term parking spaces, a lot for 150 short-term Kiss-and-Ride spaces, a lot for 20 high-occupancy vehicle (HOV) spaces, and with 15 bus bays.
This station serves residential areas and businesses in the Auth Road and Branch Avenue areas, and serves as a terminal park-and-ride station for commuters between Prince George's County and the District of Columbia, and Virginia and other destinations that are reachable on the Metrorail system.

 Abandoned Stations : Myrtle Ave
At De Kalb Ave, options were left open for a connection to the first subway run by the IRT, even though the Rapid Transit Board had decided against it because building it would force giving the new subway to the IRT.
The De Kalb Ave section was the choke point for the entire BMT Broadway subway operation, with a lot of merges and some routings crossing others at grade in the swiches on both sides of the station.
At De Kalb Ave, the platform extensions into a curve south of the station, built in 1927 to allow for longer trains, were closed and replaced by a straight extension to the north opened in 1960.

branch is the oldest line of the LIRR, having been built by the Brooklyn and Jamaica RR in 1836 and immediately leased to the LIRR.
The Fourth is from the late 30's and was taken from under the Fifth Ave.
The Far Rockaway branch runs along the right-of-way of the South Side RR's line from Jamaica to Rockaway and was completed in 1869.

It was the result of a 1914 Carnegie grant of $14,000 obtained specifically for Branch Libraries by Oakland's City Librarian Charles S. Green.
Melrose Branch was retrofitted and renovated in 1999 and reopened on July 29th, 2000.

The boundaries of the community served by the association extend from 38th Street East to Branch Avenue West, and from Pennsylvania Avenue South to Pope Branch Park North.
In 1989, the membership voted unanimously to change the name from the Penn Branch Citizens Association to the Penn Branch Citizens/Civic Association to acknowledge a more diverse tradition of community organization.
