Brandon is a town located in Rutland County, Vermont.
In the town the population is spread out with 24.7% under the age of 18, 6.2% from 18 to 24, 28.8% from 25 to 44, 26.7% from 45 to 64, and 13.7% who are 65 years of age or older.
The median income for a household in the town is $35,810, and the median income for a family is $42,455.

 Closing Brandon Training School: a Vermont Story
Twenty years ago when the town built its current waste treatment facility, the state entered into an agreement with the town and said they would pay for 31% of the operation of the plant for as long as the training school was here.
Locally, there had not been a noticeable "dumping" of people with disabilities from the institution onto the streets of Brandon.
Some of the issues they were concerned about, as citizens of Brandon, were: labor issues, and reemployment of BTS employees, many of whom were Brandon residents; economic issues, such as less revenue for local businesses; physical plant issues, particularly whether a new tenant would be found, and what type of tenant; and general community/social issues.

Brandon was originally chartered as Neshobe, after the birthplace of Captain Josiah Powers (first grantee listed among six members of the family), a section of Littleton, Massachusetts named for a tribe of Natives who lived near the ponds there.
Brandon is roughly midway between Middlebury and Rutland on US Route 7.
James Conant manufactured the first stoves made in Vermont here: cast of iron which had been mined in the town, the "Conant Furnace" is now rare and a collector's piece.
