  Brandon Teena Story
Brandon Teena was a handsome boy who had tremendous success with women because he always seemed to know exactly what they wanted.
Perhaps it helped that Brandon Teena was born Teena Brandon, a young woman who desperately wanted to be a man. But Brandon lived in a small Midwestern town, where his sexual identity crisis wasn't tolerated, inciting two so-called friends to brutally murder him and two other innocents.
This insightful film is both fascinating and horrifying, as we are treated to news footage and interviews with Brandon's family, friends, former girlfriends, as well as the two men who are in jail (one on death row) for the rape and later murder of Brandon.

Brandon Teena, see, was really Teena Brandon — a young woman masquerading as a young man to gain the affections of lonely female hearts from Lincoln to Falls City.
Brandon's masquerade finally ended with a gang rape and, a few days later, a gunshot in the face as part of a gruesome triple-homicide.
Some of these interviews are arresting examples of provincial minds wrestling with sexual aberration and horrific crime — such as the local sheriff's hostile interrogation of Brandon after her rape, or another murder victim's father rambling about his hydraulic clutch the day he lost his daughter.

Bright Lights Film Journal | Boys Don't Cry
For those who don’t know, Teena Renae Brandon (1973-1992) was born a girl but saw herself increasingly as a boy — not as a dyke who loved women but as a heterosexual male.
Her Brandon is gentle and engaging in an almost "girlish" way, comfortable with and charismatic to women, but drawn to the look — sports shirts and wrangler jeans — and rituals of men.
She balances Brandon’s swagger and seemingly uncrackable optimism with quietly devastating moments when Brandon is forced to acknowledge Teena — desperately binding her breasts, checking her underwear, nervously stuffing socks down her pants, practicing boy smiles and boy leers in the mirror.
