Little-known fact: Much of the above building, the most-often-photographed part of Branford, is not actually Branford but its neighbor college, Saybrook, which occupies the northern half of the Memorial Quadrangle.
The center structure is the Saybrook dining hall while the Branford dining hall is in the building with the short tower on the left.

In May 1968, the Yale College Faculty approved the report of a committee appointed by President Brewster to inquire into the “educational potentialities and responsibilities of the Residential Colleges.” The Master of Saybrook and two Saybrook Fellows were members of this committee, which was chaired by Professor John W. The Mary Casner Prize was established by the Saybrook College Council in 1974 to honor the head-waitress of the Saybrook Dining Hall upon her retirement.

When other college presses were disbanded and their equipment re-allocated, he was the one who salvaged and distributed the viable remains.
