Branko then tried to stop (as 1st K-1 GP winner he had some strong connections) Mirko to fight in K-1 and partially suceeded until 1999 when Mirko fought again in K-1 under Leonard Pjetraj team.
Branko was put in Jail under "attepmt of murder" suspicion.
I respect Branko as he was 1st K-1 GP winner, and a first one to raise Croatian flag at some sport event outside Croatia.
Branko was very dangerous, even past his prime, but never twice as good as Mirko.
Cikatic was beastly, one match in particular of his from 94 stands out.
Branco is one of my favorites fighters !!he has knock outs in both hands and in his prime he was an animal,a great warrior !!i was so lucky to saw him fought here in the eighties in Holland,he was the absolute number 1 at that time of chakuriki.
It could be once one fighter got hit and his whole gameplan and confidence went to shit, or maybe a fighter knowing he was outmatched from the beginning, maybe a fighter realizing he was not "on" that day, etc.
One example the comes to mind is Pride 2 when Mark Kerr fought BrankoCikatic.
Branko was elbowing kerr's back, grabbing the ropes, doing whatever he could to keep Kerr from doing anything.
I think I was very unlucky because during this tournament I had the toughest competitors and Branko was still very fresh from stopping all of his opponents early.
It was much more difficult for me to win after I beat Peter, because I had 2 very, very tough fights and I am sure I would not lost to BrankoCikatic had he not had such an easy time making it to the finals.
He is among the few martial artists who have been highly successful in fighting in both K-1 and Pride Fighting Championships.
Filipovic started his professional career in 1996 as a kickboxer, following the footsteps of his compatriot BrankoCikatic.
At the time, Filipovic was working as a commando in the Croatian police anti-terrorist unit Alpha (stationed in Lucko near Zagreb), which earned him his nickname Cro Cop.

In other words, Cikatic was 38 years 208 days old when he won the K-1 Grand Prix in 1993.
In addition to age, BrankoCikatic continues to hold the record for most knockouts in a row.
