The fact that Grgur, the son of Despot Djuradj, presented the monastery with a bell in 1458, reinforces the theory that the monastery is connected to the Brankovic family.

Prologue to Kosovo: The Era of Prince Lazar
The Balsici ruled in Zeta; Vuk Brankovic was lord of Kosovo and the surrounding regions; and King Tvrtko maintained his control over a significant amount of Serbian territory.
A number of scholars have argued on the basis of certain fragmentary evidence that Vuk Brankovic was not independent at all but rather recognized Lazar as his sovereign.
Evidence from sources outside of Serbian territory would seem to corroborate the conclusion that Lazar was not recognized (at least outside the narrow circle of the Serbian Church) as autocrat of all Serbia.

UN Commissioner Robinson ignores Resolution 1244   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-10-16)
GENEVA — Head of the permanent Yugoslav U.N. mission in Geneva, ambassador Branko Brankovic has disclosed that U.N. High Commissioner for Human Rights Mary Robinson absolutely unfoundedly disputed the sovereignty of Yugoslavia in Serbia’s southern province of Kosovo and Metohija in a report forwarded to the U.N. General Assembly.
Ambassador Brankovic said in a letter sent to Commissioner Robinson that her report on the activities of her Office aimed at enhancing and protecting human rights did not acknowledge U.N. Security Council Resolution 1244, and did not respect and accept the sovereignty of Yugoslavia on all of its territory.
Such a stand is contrary to the Constitutions of Yugoslavia and the Republic of Serbia, constitutes an interference in the internal affairs of Yugoslavia and runs counter to the basic norms of international law which define minorities, ambassador Brankovic stressed.

Lazar's former political enemies are all painted as bad guys, and Militsa's political rival Brankovic gets the worst treatment of all.
Militsa favored her son Stefan as heir to Lazar and leader of what remained of the Serbian nation; Stefan's main rival for that position was Vuk Brankovic, who had been an ally of Lazar and was married to his daughter.
The epic poetry (although oral, not written) was born out of this tradition, so Christian symbolism was not just a habit but in a sense built into the language.
