Bratislava county is a historic administrative county ( comitatus) of the Kingdom of Hungary.
Bratislava county shared borders with the Austrian land Lower Austria and the Hungarian counties Nyitra (Nitra), Komárom, Győr and Moson.
The capitals of Bratislava county were the Bratislava Castle and Šamorín, and from the 18th cenury onwards the town of Bratislava.

In its final phase, it was a strip of land between the Morava river in the north and the town of Nové Zámky in the south, plus an outlier around the town of Prievidza.
The capital of the county was the Nitra Castle and since the late Middle Ages the town of Nitra.
This was merged with the south-eastern part of former Bratislava county to form Nyitra-Pozsony county, with capital Nové Zámky (Hungarian: Érsekújvár).

Bratislava’s grand synagogue, built in 1926 in the elaborate 19th century style, with six great white columns, is the only pre-World War II shul still standing in the city.
The only youngster in shul, of any age, was the rabbi’s 6-year-old son, who sat in the hollow of the prayer stand behind which his father was giving the sermon in Slovak.

After the Ottoman Empire started its expansion into present-day Hungary in the early 16th century, the center of the Kingdom of Hungary (renamed Royal Hungary now) shifted towards Slovakia, and Bratislava (known as Pressburg/Pressporek/Posonium/Posony at that time) became its capital in 1536.
The 13 members of this court are appointed by the president from a slate of candidates nominated by parliament.
As for administrative division, Slovakia is subdivided into 8 kraje (singular - kraj, usually translated as regions, but actually meaning rather county), each of which is named after their principal city.

Thus we can say with confidence that for at least 300 years (from mid 1200s to mid 1550s) our ancestors lived at what is now Mad, a village in Slovakia that bears their name.
Szap remained their home until about 1912 when my father (the later Dr..Mihaly Bartalos, born in Szap on July 3, 1902) left the village to enter high school (called gymnasium) in the city of Papa in Hungary.
The establishment of the US offshoot of the Szap branch of the Bartalos family took place on August 24, 1960 when with my wife and first born child Mihaly (1959) we disbarked charter flight "Misea 121062" at New York's Idlewood (now John F. Kennedy) International Airport as immigrants.
