	Braunston - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
		Braunston is a village and civil parish in the county of Northamptonshire, England, It has a population of 1,675 (2001 census).
		Braunston's main claim to fame is its canal junction between the Oxford Canal and the Grand Union Canal, which was once an important part of the national transport system.
		Braunston and Willoughby station closed in April 1957 and the line itself in September 1966.

		By 1796 the canal had reached Blisworth from Braunston and in 1800 London was connected with Stoke Bruerne, leaving a three-mile gap at first filled by a road (still in use today) followed by a horse-worked iron plateway -- the first railway to be built in the south of England.
		The second attempt at building the tunnel was successful, and the Grand Junction Canal became one of the main arteries of Georgian England, and a vital factor in prosecuting the war against Napoleonic France, carrying the supplies for Nelson’s ships and Wellington’s army.
		Northamptonshire Canal Partnership is a working relationship between South Northants Council, Daventry District Council, Northampton Borough Council and British Waterways.

		Obviously, not knowing Braunston, I don't know whether the Manor House is in Braunston or in the area but the census stated it was in Braunston.
		I presume the motivation was the canal and the surname is possibly Irish.
		I am very pleased indeed to see this website about, Braunston and the canals surrounding area, it's a chaming village, i lived there for a year and the rest of the time in Daventry in 1980's.

		The area is 3,930 acres, about two thirds of which is pasture land; rateable value, £6,902; the population in 1881 was 1,072, many of the inhabitants are canal boatmen, a large proportion of whom, living almost entirely on their boats, are frequently absent from the parish.
		LITTLE BRAUNSTON is a hamlet that forms a part of the parish.
