Braunstone is a suburb of Leicester, England, to the south-west of the city centre.
It was built on the grounds of Braunstone Hall, the remnant of the grounds of which are now Braunstone Park.
By the late 20th century, Braunstone had become one of the most deprived areas in the city, and the area received nearly £50 million of regeneration funding under the "New Deal for Communities" scheme.

Braunstone is a civil parish in the district of Blaby in Leicestershire, now known as the Town of Braunstone.
This part of the parish, which contains a large council estate was detached in 1935 from the Blaby district and Braunstone Parish to become part of the county borough of Leicester, hence the present split.
The use of the name Braunstone Town is more recent, and is an attempt by the parish council to distinguish their village from the modern council estate of the same name.

A parish Council was established in Braunstone Town in 1927.

Braunstone Town Council has been pressing for Blaby District Council to get tougher with the developers for the provision of services since 1995.
There are two issues here; firstly, a community centre is the responsiblity of the local authorities and Braunstone Town Council have made it clear that they are committed to funding with partners such a facility once the developers and Blaby District Council agree to release suitable land.
Thorpe Astley is unusual as it is seperated from the main established local communities (Braunstone Town and LFE) by a bypass.

I am Chairman of the Braunstone Town Parish Plan Group that is working to deliver the community plan for the area.
