Again to quote Craven: "Her young and guiltless heart beat with new and higher life; that she was loved by a man so powerful as Lewis was sufficient recompense for a cheerless childhood." In the ordinary course of events, these two young people with Old Testament names would have married and lived happily ever after.
Elizabeth Craven, the colonel's lady, said that Lewis had ridden up to her door in the early morning -- at about the time, perhaps, that men were wading ashore with what they had fished from the water weeds at Deep River ford.
Braxton Craven wrote his story perhaps as early as 1840, drawing upon the first-hand accounts of those who had known both Naomi and her false lover.

However, as Quaker support turned toward its own school in Guilford County, Braxton Craven, York's successor as principal in 1842, turned to the state for assistance.
Craven sought and won from the legislature a rechartering of the academy as Normal College in 1851, and the privilege of granting degrees in 1853.
Because the state's system of public school was emerging ever so slowly, Craven, a licensed and later ordained preacher, next turned to the Methodist Episcopal Church, South to keep the school operating.

Success is not new to Boston College Law School in the Craven Competition: A BCLS team reached the quarterfinals in 1995-1996, its first year of competition, and the finals in 1996-1997.
For Craven, Smith has developed a system of how to survive and excel at oral advocacy that focuses on theme, fluidity, demeanor and deference, which she developed from her own experience as a Craven competitor (second place and Best Brief Honors) for Tulane Law School in 1992.
"Craven's success is due in large part to the commitment and excellence that each team has shown, as well as the time and effort that alumni, professors, students, and friends/family have given," says Smith.

An early institutional history by Bruce Craven, grandson of President Braxton Craven, notes that President Craven selected the motto in 1859 at the time the name of the college was changed to Trinity.
Braxton Craven stated that "for a church college, the name Trinity included everything that a church college ought to stand for, and that with the motto, formed a consistent plan of Christian education."
The motto, "Eruditio et Religio," most probably originated from a Methodist hymn by Charles Wesley, brother of John Wesley, the founder of Methodism.
